This entry is part of my ongoing series where I redesign creatures from Ray Harryhausen's creations. The automaton is a colossal structure fashioned in the likeness of the Dark Elven war god Kali. Its vigil is an unwavering and unbroken one that lasts for centuries, long after its creators and masters have faded from memory and their civilization has turned to dust. It waits in the darkness, guarding the forbidden rooms, prepared to confront any intruders with a terrifying flurry of razor-sharp sabres.
This particular construct is comprised primarily of porcelain components held together by bronze coils. It was likely crafted during the height of the Eastern Dark Elven Empire, several millennia ago, and was later acquired and imported by a wealthy wizard from the West. After renovations, he assigned it to guard his new domain. The machine is powered by the souls of three human females.
I am currently working on a follow-up piece that will provide additional information on the inner workings of this creation. Stay tuned for more! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this artwork and that you are all doing well. Cheers.
