This was done in October 2012. I think I'm safe posting it now.
A drawing commemorating 60 years of partnership between the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) and U.S. Pacific Fleet.
The Coastal Safety Force was formed in 1952. IT became the JMSDF in 1954.
The ships were former U.S. destroyers which became the first ship's of the JMSDF in 1954.
Kogoro Yamazaki was the Chief of Staff for the Coastal Safety Force.
Arleigh Burke was major proponent of creating a Japanese Navy after WWII and is viewed by many as the "Father" of the modern Japanese Navy.
Katsutshi Kuwana is the present Chief of Staff and Cecil Haney is the current Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Full size is 11x15 at 300. Drawn on Wacom Cintiq using Photoshop 6's default 9pt pencil. Each element was drawn separately and composited together for the final image.
