The fir trees and redwoods are enormous, even though now rarely >100years old...

Not really the right landscape for Xmas, but I like it: deep, dark, sad, quite dismal...( where is the satyr?). What does mean "Mirkwood-ish"?

It does indeed look damp and dark.
"Mirkwood" is the name of a dangerous forest
in "Lord Of The Rings"

This is _very_ much the deep damp, dank, deep forests in the Santa Cruz Mountains..... ponds seem rare up here though ....
at the end of the blocks of our isolated community (redwood estates) .....even though they were logged 100 yearrs ago, left (by accident?) scattered very old and 100 feet plus tall very old redwoods, as well as the now-century-old firs, redwoods, madrones, bay...and quite rarely, oak.....all luckily protected and the underbrush/thickets getting thicker by the year...

I miss this environment,
having involuntarily left that neighborhood,
early in '14...and my house of
35 years lost...but....Yosemite
is not a bad place to be for a tree-hugger
such as moi...
