But he was always "ashamed" of that fact (of him coming from a poor Family), after WWI he took on the German citizenship. So: he was born in Austria but was German when he got to rule.
It is as hard to seperate the Germans from the Austrians as it is to fuse them together, they're best described as brotherly/sisterly Nations, we speak the same language but we have different ways of thinking. We don't like and love each other at the same time.
