It took quite a while. I think at least 50 hours of work.

Woooow! That is impressive! I mean, wow! You kept at it that long....it must've meant a lot of late nights, huh? Well, wow! (I gotta stop saying that) Great job, anyway! (oh, and I found a picture of my siblings and I all dressed up. Can't really see my hair, but you can see my sister's (she did her own and it looks great!))

Yep, a lot of late nights. My mom helped some too b/c I was getting tired and frustrated. And you all look very nice.

Awww. Well I'm glad you could get a little help! It certainly LOOKS like it was enough work! (and thank you! hee! We don't always look that sharp, but that's one of my favorite pictures of the three of us)

wow!
hahaha In grade 8 sewing class I attempted to make a bean-bag frog..."attempted"..meaning failed miserably and half the class was pelted by the beans of an exploding bean frog. That was fun. I was just thinking what would happen if I attempted something as amazing as the work you did here

Anyway, incredibly beautiful dress and you look absolutely gorgeous in it

Thanks a lot! It took many, many hours of work. In HS, I did my senior project on sewing. This was a part of the project I did alone, but if I ever needed help, my mentor told me I could call her. I actually had to at one time, and she helped me out a lot!

I've gotta give credit to my mom too. I was working like a madwoman the week before prom b/c the dress still wasn't finished. I kept getting so tired and frustrated, and she would sometimes sit and do the little tasks for me when I started to break down and cry b/c I was just going so darn crazy!

It was definitely worth it though. Thanks for the comment. And the compliment.

Wow, alot of work went into it, and it really shows

Ahh, I know how you felt. In my grad year I was doing a big art scholorship and the week right before it I was still working like crazy to finish all the paintings, organize all my sketchbooks, build my display, and all that. By the time it finally came around I hadn't slept for 5 days and I was pretty much dead on the day. I made it thru though, but you're right there's times when you just want to crawl into a corner and cry 'cause you just don't want to do it anymore

Do you still have the dress?

Nice! Do you wear it still? or has it been put away since grad?

artistchick In reply to glassonion14 [2004-08-30 20:04:02 +0000 UTC]

Well, I only wear it if Luc and I are doing roleplay or something. LOL. It doesn't normally get much use, unfortunately.

So yeah, mostly put away since grad.

Aww, well..at least it gets some use
You should wear it next time you go to Quebec City, take photos around all the old buildings and parks

That's a neat idea.

They have a Renaissance store there It's awesome too!!! The clothing is pretty well-priced for kinds of that make. I tried on this one dress, elaborate wine-red silk with rope around the bell-sleeved arms and lacing at the bust, it was only $400! Normally a dress like that would cost even more! I love Quebec City.

Nice! That sounds awesome. I'd love to visit Quebec one day, some of my friends have been there recently and they said it was so much fun. If I go, maybe I'll be able to put to use the whole 3 words I remember from 5 years of French class heheh

Do you go to Renaissance Fairs and things like that? Or are you more just interested in the clothing?

I'd love to go to a Renaissance fair, but I know of none nearby. I'd probably have to travel quite far, which can be difficult considering that I don't have a car.

You should go to Quebec City! You'd probably love it! Everyone there speaks English too and most are very patient with tourists!

I would love to go sometime, it looks quite amazing.

And phew, that's good, I'm horrible with languages. 5 years of French...what do I remember? Pretty much nothing.

But I'm trying to learn a bit of Polish right now because my sisters husband's (They just got married less than 2 weeks ago so it feels weird calling him "my sisters husband") family is Polish and english is their second language so sometimes they have trouble understanding us. And I'm also very slowly teaching myself Latin. For a person who doesn't like languages...why am I doing this to myself?! hahaha

True.
I was reading about a study that was done recently about the affect of languages on the brain. Apparently those who are bilingual or fluent in other languages are less likely to develop brain illness later in life. The other language acts as sort of a back-up system. Interesting.

Wow, that is really interesting!

I think learning anything new and challenging like that (even if it's just the new skill of moving your mouth in a different way or doing a new yoga move) increases the amount of gray matter in your brain and makes you SMAHT

I love you, you .

SMAHT! hahaha you're probably right, and do you do yoga? My sister is a yoga instructor, a yogi heheh

haha thank you

artistchick In reply to glassonion14 [2004-09-03 13:40:30 +0000 UTC]

yep! I took a yoga class the first semester I was here and have since continued what I learned at home. My yoga instructor asked me if I'd be interested in becoming an instructor, and I really wanted to! But, all of her classes are at like 6 or 7AM, so it's difficult for me to come in and get more practice.

But I do practice at home! I've found some really good stretches using yoga. It's sometimes difficult for me to stretch out using "normal" stretches b/c I'm so flexible. Yoga often takes it to the next level!

You're sister is a yogi? That is so cool! I'd love to do that for a living.

glassonion14 In reply to artistchick [2004-09-03 17:47:35 +0000 UTC]

That's awesome! I haven't really done it much myself, but I've seen the benifits from it in everyone who goes to my sister's class.
I am sooooo un-flexible! I can't even touch my toes!! And yes, doing yoga would probably help me become more flexible so...maybe I should give it another try
