Description “See the smoke curl from the chimney,
An’ the mat beside the door,
On the path there stands the family,
Like you left ‘em long before.
Home returning, home returning,
"Seasons gone an’ young uns grown,
Home returning, home returning,
Back to those I call my own!

There the fire burns and the ale brews,
An’ the bread bakes soft an’ brown,
While my friends wait with the good news,
Bring my chair an’ sit me down.
Home returning, home returning,
Comes the warrior from the war,
Home returning, home returning,
Home to wander nevermore!”
-The Outcast of Redwall By Brian Jacques

This image is an honor of one of my favorite authors. It depicts Martin the Warrior, the most iconic character of the series, One of the hares which I read somewhere was his favorite of his character species, and Sunflash the Mace, my favorite of all Redwall characters.

I know some of you have heard, and some of you may not really care or simply don't know who this is.

Brian Jacques was and will remain in my opinion, one of the greatest literary minds of our age. Some people just didn't have a taste for his books, but he inspired me in many ways.

The "Redwall" series did so much for me. It combined my two favorite genres into one world. While he wrote 21 Redwall books, each was new and special. All the characters had life and personality different from one another. These books really got me back into drawing at a time when I had all but stopped and kept me going. They let my imagination not only race but soar. While other girls were playing with their Barbies, I was out in the woods with a makeshift slingshot pretending to defend Redwall Abbey.

Redwall wasn't even his only series. He had many other books, though were not as famous, but still well loved. He did live a long life as he died at the age of 71 but I still feel it was much to young for a mind like his. Who knows how many stories he had left to tell of Martin the Warrior and his friends, ancestors, and descendanst that the world will now never know.

For me, this loss cuts deep. I sit and stare at all 21 of the Redwall books sitting on my shelf, and every time I begin to cry again. I always wish I could have gotten to meet him, to shake his hand and say thank you. I will anxiously await his final tale The Rogue Crew due out on March 3, 2011. I already on pre-order.

Rest in Peace Mr. Jacques.
From fisherman to a world-wide known author.
Your stories will remain with us always!

Eulalia! Redwall!

This really caught my eye.

Didn't hear much of him at all in most of my life, which kinda saddened me.

I still can faintly remember some memory of his literatural work i may of read.

Well, ceratinly have now. But, if anything, i hope he was buried with one book in particular:

REDWALL.

It's great to see another fan of Redwall. I have most of his books and this picture just further more saddens me. Brain Jacques was a role model in my eyes and just as he inspired you to draw, he inspired me to write. He will be missed in my eyes.

RIP Brain Jacques.

;_; I was so sad when I found out about his death. Mariel of Redwall was the first non-picture book i ever read, and by golly it shall be the best book I will ever had read. Now that Brian is dead, it kind of feels like redwall and all its magic is dead too. This picture is a fantastic tribute to him, many thanks.

I saw the thumbnail I was so excited I missed the title. Now I'm quite upset. I haven't read any of the Redwall Saga novels in years but this is quite the shock. He was one of my favorite authors to the point that though I hadn't read any of his books in years I tried to make sure I'd get the latest book in hard cover. He's one of the authors if not the author that really got me into reading for fun. I actually refused to pick up Harry Potter for a while because I was caught up in his world of Redwall.

As I was trying to write this through the tears I remembered something that now I count myself lucky. I may not have met the man, but I do have one of my books signed by him. I truthfully don't remember even ordering the book but did get a phone call to pick it up and found that I had a signed copy, it was the second book in his other series. I wish I could have met him to get it signed instead of the luck of being given a signed copy to buy back then, but I'll have to live with that.

It saddens me there will be no more adventures written by him, it's so hard to believe he's gone even with the news of it. If it weren't for you I'd never have known it until the rare day that I tried to go to redwall.org to see what books I'd missed.

My first book that I read by him was Salamandastron that one and Martin the Warrior had to be my two favorites. Martin was always one of my favorite characters while Sunflash the Mace had to bee my favorite badger.

He will be dearly missed.

WHAT?! D8> No... I don't want to believe that it could be possible, but I know it must be. The world doesn't seem the same now. He was a huge part of my childhood and a major inspiration. It was almost as if he was immortal to me, one of those great people who had earned immunity from the chopping block of death. I remember secretly staying up late at night to read just a few more pages of his books under my covers before going to bed... Heck, I STILL stay up late to read his books. I still haven't fully come to grips yet with his passing even though I keep re-reading every comment and the description, hoping to find this to be just a joke.

Thank you for creating such a beautiful memorial picture and informing us of this sad tragedy... He will live on forever in my heart.

"Who dares to love forever, when love must die?"

You may find it weird that I'm quoting Queen here, but trust me when I say that I couldn't think of anyone else that could fit here for lyrical musing.

Its a shame he passed, his stories will still be read long after his passing. The Redwall books were amazing beyond all words. By far Salamandastron was my favorite of his stories.

Your great Artistic-Demise, for honoring him with this picture.

Unfortunately, it is true..He passed over this last weekend from a heart attack. I cried myself when I first heard. He was an inspiration to many, and I am so thankful I got to know his work. I felt this picture was the least I could do for him <3
