The open gate is a nice compositional element, which introduces the viewer into the scene. And I like the passage from shadowy foreground to the sunlit winterly trees. Nice work .

Alright trouble, here I am !!

1 - thanks for the name check hehe. Fame at last. Thing is, most cameras don't really record the depth of colour tone so I always try to bring that back. Then usually keep pushing the slider...... hehe

2 - your pic. WOW! It's really great. All the comments are right and just, so ditto. My only suggestion, based on my immediate reaction, is that perhaps the pic is too square - too deep I mean. I'd try it with some of the grass trimmed off, and perhaps some of the sky. Just makes it more 'landscape'y.

I've had a fiddle and put the result in Scraps.

Thanks for showing me your thoughts. I am at last learnign that to edit is skill and not ruin of photography as the purists say - thanks for helping me along that journey! If it weren't for your influence i wouldn't have pushed them as far. Actually this one was attained really manipulating curves changing almost each tone individually - the graph was hilarious in the doing! lolol

Glad you appreaciate it and thanks for that constructive crit. then taking the time to show me. Have had a look and can see where your going but my problem is i'm now too attached to this image! lol

Life's a learning curve hon, and my curve has been in some strange shapes now and again I can tell ya!

Processing starts the minute you press the button. It always has - even on film cameras which is what the 'urists' say. And what about paintings? Perhaps they are the ultimate 'rocessors' eh? Cameras have never been able to record the actual scene. Film is a series of chemicals and Fuji's interpretation of red was always different to Kodak's. Then there's the printing process. Different papers give different colours and contrast.

Digital is no different, we just use a different medium.

Lenses alter the images too. Wideangles bend the edge of the frame, telephotos compress distance (think cityscapes or rolling hills in the mist type shots). Always have and always will. Then again, how do we know that our eyes/brains are processing the image we see in to something we can understand?

What if the world doesn't really look exactly as we see it?

Scary huh?

Keep pushing the sliders babe, never settle for leaving it in the middle.

ArtlessHmmmm In reply to Andrew-and-Seven [2008-01-14 15:26:47 +0000 UTC]

yes - i think i would agree. I'm just beginning to learn about all the filters and different lenses (not htat i have any YET!) Big question - how deos the world actually look and how much is our brain's interpretation. some are so opptomistic seeing the beauty and some so pessimistic seeing only the negative and destruction. How does it look? Different to each much like differences through a camera lens depending upon the pre-conception you drape over your eyes!

this is wonderful....one really feels drawn into the picture, its great the way you chose to show the gate at the side. the increased contrast helps making it even more dramatic....i can imagine so well how it must feel standing at this spot very nice composition!

Why thankyou - I'm glad you appreciate the gate - it was just an after thought after frosty morning was taking - works though so well!!!!

I'm not sure you can imagine though. Behind me were parked 20-30 cars and i was stood on a yellow/brown gravel carpark! lol

Wow!! What an atmosphere! I love winter like this The sky is beautiful as are the trees Maybe this helps to improve the feeling of winter with this photo: If you would take the photo a bit higher so you can see more black ice in the middle of the photo. I love this one really

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArtlessHmmmm In reply to MatthijsM [2008-01-10 20:19:35 +0000 UTC]

the black is the shadow under the ice between the grass - there is no black ice. Only white ontop of the grass... i tried to get a higher perspective but lost the gate which is what i felt made this photo special and different from the other one... Thankyou for your comment!
