Very nice work, I can clearly see the value of working in oils when I look at pieces such as this. The soft gentle blending is perfect, and the subtle texturing on the petals is really well done. Β Just an excellent piece of work overall and a pleasure to view.

Hello! I'm making a series of art videos about flowers, and I was wondering if I could include this piece in one of my videos. It would be set to an original classical-style composition (by me) about this flower. I'll be sure to credit you and link to your page if you say yes.

Awwww! Thank you! To respond to your other comment: It just takes a lot of work and even more patience to do it. A good reference photo is a must, too. I'm currently working on a new 40" x 40" rose painting that details the steps to a finished piece, which will be posted towards the end of this month!

I've done a few roses in my time, and this piece is exceptional. Do you use a wet on wet technique?

Artman225 In reply to jfkpaint [2011-05-15 14:37:56 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! I do use wet on wet when I paint in oils. When I'm blending the colors on the petal, I find it's easiest to do it that way.

Of all the roses you've painted, it's "my favorite rose to date" too. Nicely done. I bet it is easier to paint all those gloriuos petals in big size canvas.

Thank you very much! It really is much easier to paint those details on a large canvas. You can use a larger brush and can be freer with your brushstrokes. It just takes a lot longer because there's more surface to cover. haha
