Description

( For those of you who don't like to read words embedded in images, here's the plain text... )

AVATAR/2009
( This will be a very short review, as it's one of those things that must be experienced, not talked about. )

James Cameron's latest brainchild, his first real film in 12 years ( although he has had some very small scale writing/directing work in the meantime ), is nothing short of magnificent! If I had any problems at all with the film, it would be these two things:
1 ) The dialogue. Let us be realistic here, folks. Although a lot of it is cute, funny, or quote worthy ( such as James Cameron's most famous, “I'll be back” line from Terminator ), there are a few lines that probably should have been cut from the film. Sometimes Jim goes a little far with the 'cheese.' ...Not too overboard, but a little bit.
2 ) The 3 month time line of the story is utter nonsense...completely UNBELIEVABLE. Three months is NOT enough time to: infiltrate a people; gain their trust; learn their ways and their language, whilst becoming their sworn brother; and obtain your life mate! Seriously, 3 MONTHS?! What in the blazes was our beloved writer/director thinking?! What is written as 3 months in the screenplay, should have been penned as 3 YEARS! Now that's much more believable.
( But being that the film is so marvelous, otherwise, these issues I have are of no real consequence. )

I'm going to stop here, everyone, for there is no way for me to go any further without revealing some key elements that ought to be left alone, as to be received as 'leasant surprises.'
I will close, imploring you all to see marvelous bit of cinema immediately...you must! If nothing else, go just because it's so wonderful to look at! When I say this, I do so with no exaggeration whatsoever: As far as appearances go, Avatar is easily the most beautiful thing I have ever seen on screen...

...EVER.
