This one I coloured *AGES* ago. Over a year ago anyway. It was sort of the cover for issue 3 of Wasted (well the central character was anyway), but the artwork ... by none other than the one & only Simon Bisley!!! ... was originally supposed to be for the back cover of the 'Tales of the Buddha' book, and has now finally been published in its entirety as an A3 pinup in the new issue of Wasted (no.6). Got all that?Anyway, I was asked to do this cuz I have a way with pencil-toned work, and as both my first cover, and getting to do the official colours on an original Biz piece, it was an absolute treat. I first really got into comics as an artform when I discovered his run on ABC Warriors in 2000AD, and then he blew my lid off with The Horned God, so he was a big part of why I loved comics in the first place. Think I maybe enjoyed colouring this up? ^_^
[EDIT] - reposted this side-by-side with the original pencils, since there was a lot of toning on this already, so now you can see what was & wasn't me! ^_^

To be honest i reckon it would have been great i the whole of this image and colour job was included as opposed to the Buddha and the people upfront (where they added a patterned background instead).

You mean when it was the cover for Wasted, aye? That was just because they wanted to keep the full image for a later pinup and the back-cover for the Buddha book. It wasn't originally intended for Wasted at all, see!

Talking of Horned God tho - have you seen the pseudo-trailer of Horned God made by some Spanish film company as part of the sorta demo reel? If not, just google Slaine: The Horned God, and check the first vid - it would be fakkin amazin!

What does pencil-toned work mean in this context? Does that mean no inking and crosshatching/blending in the pencil line-art?

Okay, take another look at the pic now - I reposted side-by-side with the original pencils, so you can see exactly what that means in this context. Much easier than trying to explain! ^_^

That is incredible work. Part of the work was like painting over a grayscale image and then you improved the lighting. You really did a lot for the basic composition.
I'm not actually sure how you did it exactly but it looks great.

Hehe - thanks man! And if I did it, you can bet it was easier than it looks, tho there were quite a few different techniques employed in this one, if I remember right. Working on already-shaded artwork can call for quite a few layers! ^_^
