No. I meant he shouldn't have killed his clan at all. I mean if he, in the end, was protecting his brother then why kill the clan and tell Sasuke to hate him to become powerful. I don't get it.

Well he didn't have much of a choice. Danzo did say to him that the only way he could ever save Sasuke was if HE killed the Uchiha, or else Anbu would have killed Sasuke with the rest of the Clan.
