You have really captured the feeling of being alone and desperate!
When I see the other figures in the distance I wonder - are they just normal people that the main figure "feels" distant from, or are they other lonely people looking for the same ray of light?

the other figures are actually the observers , they are rushing closer to capture a glimpse of the reaction of the main figure. they all have their own opinion on the matter and i guess some are primarily around for moral support.
