My OC Cael. He was the first merman of my mer species I came up with, same type as Django. I'm not sure if I want his story to be cannon in the world... it involves humans finding out about the species and keeping them captive for a while until it becomes known to the public as a whole how smart they really are. The scientists who first "discover" them keep the fact that they're intelligent quiet so they an keep them in captivity. So yeah. Not sure I like that, so going to write about Django now, even though Cael came first! Where Django is compact, stubborn, and a bit gruff, Cael is sleek, laid back, and friendly. He works on his adoptive Uncle's fishing boat and in their little trinket store. They're poor and it's a tough life, but Cael's a happy guy anyway.

About my species: In my version of merfolk this is their true form, and though they can take on a human looking appearance, they are not the same species. In human form merfolk don't look like humans when it comes to reproductive anatomy or a myriad of other little details, so they can be discerned if one looks closely. Merfolk are not mammals or fish. They have hair (long on the head very fine on the body) and give live birth. In merform their hands and feet are more like flippers. Their hands have one free digit and opposeable thumb. Their knees are ball joints which means they can bend both backwards and forwards giving them a powerful propulsive kick, but they can also move their legs independently which means they can make more precise movements and turns than if he had just a tail. They have gills, teeth, and eyes just like a shark.
