You're welcome! I want to look thru your gallery one day. I'm curious if there are any monsters like that.

I can't believe how many teeth are in that thing. I'm laughing. It's amazing.

Very cool concept and you're shark is beautiful! Good thing they don't have that many teeth in real life! Did you do this in Photoshop?

Ok, thanks. I was just wondering because the brushes look very similar to the ones I use in Photoshop.

what classes or courses does someone need to take to be able to create things sucha s this, I wanna make a living doing this stuff but i cant figure out what classes to take, i need someone to point me in the right direction

Artsammich In reply to kykomonoto [2013-09-02 21:34:25 +0000 UTC]

I took a class on how to be just a little crazy. I can think of lots of places to get that education.

kykomonoto In reply to Artsammich [2013-09-02 21:57:30 +0000 UTC]

I just need a starting point on what classes would teach me how to be able to paint like you, my main issue seems to be painting

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Artsammich In reply to kykomonoto [2013-09-04 18:47:11 +0000 UTC]

I'd say take a few online painting classes, they are easily accessible and not too expensive compared to university courses. I actually teach a class at schoolism.com, where there are multiple really good courses from a variety of teachers across the entertainment industry.

kykomonoto In reply to Artsammich [2013-09-05 00:53:52 +0000 UTC]

I saw your class on advanced lighting, Unfortunately all the class spots are taken until april so in the meantime im going to try and find some online painting classes, any direction? or just any painting class. The style of art i aim for is basically yours and Bobby Chiu's. I don't wanna pay for classes that will just teach me other things i don't wanna learn

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Artsammich In reply to kykomonoto [2013-09-09 02:20:33 +0000 UTC]

Do you already feel comfortable painting in photoshop or in Painter (or whatever else you use)? Bobby Chiu teaches a digital painting class on his site that focuses on photoshop and Ryan Wood teaches a great one on Painter. Both of them are focused more on workflow for a painting than anything else, but I think they teach a bit of the programs as well.

kykomonoto In reply to Artsammich [2013-09-09 05:04:28 +0000 UTC]

I've never used painter so i guess photoshop, i'm really efficient with photoshop and i know all the shortcuts and commands and im comfortable with it. My problem lies in color theory, and basically painting, i try and try but its not the the level i want it to be. The classes are also quite expensive even the self taught classes

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Artsammich In reply to kykomonoto [2013-09-09 19:54:30 +0000 UTC]

Think of expense as investment. If you invest money and time into a book, but then sell that book for more than you invested, that investment is worth it. If you want to be a professional artist or even an occasional freelance artist, and the investment in classes makes your skills marketable, then that investment is worth it. If you're only a hobby artist then that investment becomes more of a personal thing, and whether that money results in more fulfillment of your hobby. I spent a lot of money on good headphones, not because they make me money, but because I listen to music a lot and better headphones make that more enjoyable. But I didn't spend a lot of money on my television because I don't watch hardly any television.

So whether something is expensive is not an absolute, but instead a flexible concept depending on how strongly you're willing to invest in that thing.

That actually makes alot of sense to me, i think i'll save up all the money i can and invest in a few classes from schoolism since i also like the work of Alvin Lee, but i wanna get better at painting first, Is there anything you could recommend in the mean time? maybe a good reference book? or something that could help me so im not a sitting duck waiting till i get enough money to take the classes

Artsammich In reply to kykomonoto [2013-09-17 18:26:50 +0000 UTC]

I think James Gurney's books are pretty good, Alla Prima by Richard Schmid is very good also. Andrew Loomis (Creative Illustration and others) is a must. I don't know about other books, but if I think of anything I'll let you know.
