I love the colour combination and the lighting, including the little pendant/lantern she holds.

Being a barefooter, that was the first thing I noticed, how well you did the feet!

That willow makes me want to lie down under it. What a great place to sit a while!

The hair and blouse are very beautiful and realistic. I kept wondering when she would turn around so I could ask what she was doing here.

Her hips and arm resting on the tree, one foot raised, kind of make me think she is either waiting for someone, or resting. Something how she holds her head and the arm with the necklace makes me think she is wary and expects something to happen. Gah! Now i want to read the book to find out what happens! You tell a very good tale.

Wooooow I LOVE her hair and the lighting. But most of all her hair. I have a really hard time doing realistic wavy hair. Totally envious

Parts of this look almost real. Great work. That little shiny thing might get lost on a standard size paperback book cover though. Is it significant?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scudhunt In reply to bellsandy [2011-03-22 01:24:03 +0000 UTC]

It's kind of significant. It's not a major part of the story, but it helps things along, in a way. So, yes. But if you don't catch it the first time on the cover, it will be like a super surprise when you finally discover it!

As the others says, your details are amazing. But what I really love is your color choices. Each painting as a unique feel to it due to the colors - beautiful!

This entire painting is gorgeous, but my favorite part is the detailing on the sole of her foot. Weird, I know, but I can't help staring at it, it's perfect!

Wow. Your artwork never ceases to amazing me, but I must say that this piece is absolutely gorgeous and may now be one of my favorite of yours. Your attention to detail - her hair, clothes, and foot, the bark on the tree, the grass and leaves, everything like that -- take the painting to a completely different level. The colors are breathtaking.

What an awesome cover for a book!

This is stunning. The combination of color, light, shadow and contrast draws the eye to the girl. Her pose suggests perhaps a patient expectation, like something is about to happen and she knows it.

Beautiful painting.

I like how her back is to the viewer. I hate it when books have the characters face painted on the cover. ttly ruins my mental image :c Just look at the old school british covers on Harry Potter 8I

Im a little confused as to why she's in sweatpants and a corset... and how her feet didn't get dirty walking on grass, buuut ...
this is really beautiful and I think you're an incredibly talented artist. I love the lighting and the mood.

scudhunt In reply to DeanWinchester [2011-03-03 06:00:48 +0000 UTC]

Not quite sweatpants. Think more of a flowing palazzo style pant. Or gauchos. Different material, but similar style.

artsangel In reply to DeanWinchester [2011-03-03 02:40:46 +0000 UTC]

Hey, I don't question the costumes provided to me by the commissioner, I just draw them.

And walking on grass doesn't make your feet dirty! I know, I walk barefoot most of the time

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

DeanWinchester In reply to artsangel [2011-03-03 21:37:37 +0000 UTC]

haha. I was just asking. Besides you probably have enough people who just sing your praises all the time.

I grew up on the West Coast, and there's dirt under the grass, and you get green grass stains on your feet and then, the dirt that's under the grass usually gets to you. But i haven't been barefoot in drier climates.

GodessFae In reply to artsangel [2011-03-03 12:46:26 +0000 UTC]

amen. I walk ALL the time barefoot, and the only time my feet get dirty is when my yard fails and has 'no grass' patches

Simply amazing! Just curious, do you find lineless or linearted work easier?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

artsangel In reply to Wheatart [2011-03-02 23:58:37 +0000 UTC]

Lineless, actually. I'm not so skilled with the care and precision required for good lines.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

TamalasGhost In reply to artsangel [2011-03-03 16:38:31 +0000 UTC]

I agree with that as well. It's so hard to make nice, clean lines that aren't awkward or wobbly. And in a way, it's more work. You already have to do the sketch, and the colouring; the lines are yet ANOTHER step. I don't mind using lines if I'm allowed to make them rough and sketchy. People say it just looks lazy, but I think there's a certain charm to it. The girl's hair in the picture is absolutely gorgeous, by the way. Strangely enough, I'm impressed by small details, like the wrinkles in the foot. I would have had no idea how to draw a foot at that angle without a good reference picture.
