Well, ArualMeow posted a family tree not too long ago, and it showed that her father was Brightstar and Hazeleyes's brother. I knew it was him because he has the same little zigzag on his chest as Rain. Simple detective work, honestly.

First cat in third frame, I believe is Owl/Mouse--- Nights sister? The white and ginger she-cat in the middle is; Firespot, The tom next to her is Brocktails friend, Named Shrewtuft, The black she-cat could be Mossheart or Starlingnose (Nights mother)

Is it just me or does the ear notch on Mud sometimes get smaller or bigger? Like, a recent page showed Mudstripe's ear like Icestar took a huge chunk out of it but now it's a small rip xD

Mudpelt is such a hypocrite against strombringer... his dad was swampfur (riverclan) and his mom is leopardpelt from thunder. then, he's getting all up-close and personal with Firespot, a riverclan cat... smh

So this my idea: During the traitorous rein of Icestar, the cult was originally set up as a rebellion group, made up of the friends/family members of Icestar's victims. But with Icestar being dead now (They may of have killed him), they've lost sight of their original purpose and have washed down to become cult. But what exactly their goal is now is hard to say, with most members now blindly following Mudstripe becuase he claims to Starclan's messager, with only Nightpelt seemly knowing their true goal. But maybe it to keep high ranking cats in check like Leaders/Deputies/Medicine cats, so the events of Icestar can never be repeated.
Though, this isn't the full story obviously. As there's still that rouge group that Grosefur was running away from, that will come into the plot sooner or later. If they're connected with Mudstripe's cult impossible to say.
Another idea, (Though less likely) Mudstripe mentioned that Stormbringer was killed for his forbidden relationship. And there does seem to be a large number of forbidden couples/half-clan kits/mixed blood in the comic. So Mudstripe contracts cats from other Clans like Hawkmask, about cats who they suspect, are putting the Clans at risk of 'merging together'. The cult is a way of 'flittering the Clans of any unwanted blood', keeping them 'pure'.
I know some will argue Mudstripe had a Riverclan mate killed by Icestar, so that would be hypocritical. However, that event could of changed Mudstripe's attitudes, in his own dark twisted way, Mudstripe is preventing those relationships from happening, so no one else can go through the same pain as he did.
