ah but the easiest way is not necessarily the best. In addition, now that I think about it, what is it going to do with Cloud? not because, he has seen everything, we agree?

What could happen may vary a lot,however I am not sure if Rain will actually die or not.Cloud might be able to climb up fast enough to fight Mud off,but could also cost the lives of both characters.
Mud and Cloud could both be fighting and fall into the pit again,killing both due to the impact.
Mud could end up winning over Cloud or vice-versa.
Mud could redeem himself but that would just make a lot of time to pace to the next scene.
Night could come just in time to save her,because it's hard for Cloud to climb up just in time,and that could make their relationship work again(?)

Damn, this kinda gives a perspective of people that Mud deems as needing killing. He's 100% ready and willing to kill a pregnant, helpless she-cat along with Cloud and Ring to save his own ass. It definitely puts into perspective that his viewpoint is more "If they fuck with me they're clearly the threat" than "I need to get rid of threats for ThunderClan." I mean, if he was truly once a warrior under the leadership of Icestar, there's potential that he was an actual loyal warrior to Icestar and this whole thing is a facade to... overthrow Brightstar? Gain power? If this is truly a cult, then there's a high chance he's been lying all along to gain power and followers. I mean, "I'm here to save ThunderClan" is a pretty convincing argument when it comes to getting followers, especially his previous lie that he was the "prophet of StarClan."
If he does truly believe this is right, I think it's because so many cats have blindly followed him to the end to the point where he's warped his own moral and logic to believe that only he is right and everyone who is against him is a traitor to the entirety of ThunderClan because of it, unable to see that he's a murderer.
But if he does know what he's doing is not okay, I think he is doing it as a sick way to get power. I mean, just looking at the way he's responded to Ring's and Rain's wavering loyalty is almost a textbook sign of a cult leader. "There is no legitimate reason to leave, former followers are always wrong in leaving, negative or even evil." is just one of the warning signs of a cult. Another example is "The group/leader is always right." which just goes to show that this is a very textbook case of a cult leader.

I think that he started all of his killings with good intentions when the clan was in dismay. But right now the clans are at a point where they aren't in constant warfare, and after being surrounded by all of his friends and family dying around him all his life, murder is probably all he knows. He probably justifies his body count by saying that 'it's the only way to keep the peace'. It's not that the cats he kills need to be killed, it's that he needs to kill them. He's dug himself into a hole that made him the very thing he fought to destroy and at this point there isn't any clear way to fix that. His reasoning is along the lines of his motives being just, when deep down he knows that he is doing just what Icestar did. But the further he goes, the more he spirals down into the twisted path he's laid out for himself and the harder it gets to go back. Now all he can do is do what he does best because it's either that or his own death. It really seems like Mudstripe doesn't want to kill Rainstone, Cloudpelt, and Ringtail but he's in the same spot of all of the cult members where he fears judgement so much that he kills to avoid it
But those are just my thoughts on him, he's a really interesting character

Ok ok ok, Mudstripe obviously know this is wrong, he knows he's doing it for personal reasons and I can't forgive him for that. Some of his other murders may have been able to be explained or pardoned but killing a pregnant queen thats willing to leave to save yourself (and possibly Jaguarstorm) then that is selfish.
