Oh, I've read TAS a gazilion times, and it never gets old! Mind, I only read it because Balthamos and Baruch are in it, and because I love the bit when Will and Lyra's demons settle (I don't know why I like that part). Cor, I'm ranting aswell!!! Anyways, I reckon the angel on the left is Balthamos, because he has smaller wings, and opposite is obviously Baruch. Hey, if I ever have two twin boys, I want to call the Balthamos Nad Baruch! Seriously!!!

ahh... i remember when i first read the books... i must've been very young because even though it is explicitly said that they love each other i didn't quite catch the meaning of it... but i do still know that already then i was sooo sad for balthamos when baruch died and when balthamos died, too, i was only a bit sad (he was/is my favourite character) but mostly happy because he can be with Baruch again ^^ ... jeez i'm ranting, aren't i?
anyway, your pic is really nice, love the feelings you managed to bring in... love, sadness, yearning, tenderness, but also despair... and yeah, many more ^^
very good work!

Amazing! It's tender and while I wouldn't call it "erotic", it's certainly open to eroticism...if that makes sense. I love the sense of purity I get from it, though due to recent activities (namely a tabletop RPG called In Nomine), angels have been on my brain.
Just touching can be so important.
The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is how at the bottom, their wings sort of scissor apart sharply, like Archangel from the X-Men, and they loose the featheryness of the top of the wings.

Yes, I mean where the feathers diverge and look brokenish and jagged.
No problem.

Hmmm... maybe I could make them wider and more feathery. Or add more in the gaps to smooth the line.
Thanks for making me think.

No, not yet. I wanted to finish the books first, even though that can often kill movies.
How was it?

So touching! Great rendition, haven't been able to find many pics of these two, either individually or together. I liked the first movie and I'm anxious to see how they'll portray these two. What will they look like? Will they still be in love? Anyways, thanks for a great pic of them!

It's funny, when I read The Amber Spyglass, and the part about Balthamos and Baruch, I was thinking "This seems a little gay...Surely they're not like that." Of course, I have no problem with homosexuality; it just didn't seem like something that the author would include. But now that I look back and re-read some of the passages, it makes perfect sense. They're not gay, and gender is irrelevant; they're just two souls who love each other in the purest way possible. Their relationship really is beautiful, and your drawing mirrors that perfectly. I love it.

What do you mean with "democratic"? I read and enjoy most styles, ranging from obscure to best-sellers, depending on my mood. My favorite poet is Charles Baudelaire. I loved Dostojevski'd Crime and Punishment. I had fun reading Bukowski's books. More obscure but very beloved is funny belgian writer AmΓ©lie Nothomb. I just discovered Kurt Vonnegut and enjoyed reading most of his books. Fantasy-wise, I recently read and liked A song of Ice and Fire, the Harry Potters, and Good Omens (Pratchett and Gaiman). A short while ago, I also read Donna Tartt's books but felt cheated in the end. Same for the Neil Gaiman books, for which I just had way too high expectations after his marvelous comics.
So, yes, I think I'm democratic, if that's what you mean. Are you?
I'm more picky on comics. I love the Sandman, Calvin and Hobbes, Bone, and a lot of comics from around here.

Aruchel In reply to Pluizebol [2006-01-25 07:26:27 +0000 UTC]
I love Good Omens! Except I found it by collecting Pratchett, who's one of my favourites.
I know it's a bit silly, but I tend only to read books above a certain page number. I go through them really quickly, and so I feel that if they aren't thick enough I can't get to know the characters enough. But I'll read pretty much anything I'm given, and I sometimes by unknown books simply because I like their title.
I've enjoyed old and new books - I recently forked out a rather large sum for a collection of Dickens, and my favourite book in recent memory is Don Quixote. But I like Eddings, Dartthornton (an Australian author, do you know her?), and other science fiction people. A great one for complexity is Rankin, whose books always tie in with one another even if you aren't sure how. Very recently I got into Joanne Harris, and very nearly bought the cookbook she wrote based on the recipes she mentions in her books.
Comics are an odd spot for me. I'll always have a place for Asterix, of course. Larson's Far Side is always good, as are Dilbert and some of the early Garfield.

Very nice.
I don't know about Pullman's angels, but this drawing looks slightly erotic. was that intended?
