Description EDIT: Worked more on his face.

A really quick and loose concept of farmer Arvalis, farmvalis if you will. Ive always intended him to start the story as a farmer. Ive even sketched it a few times, but never actually finished out a concept. This is a concept because i need to pitch my final next week and needed a final design for farmvalis.

Adventurer Arvalis

Did you play the first dungeon siege game (and or its expantions)? If not i think, even though you probably have a full story already, it may help you possibly conjure some ideas to help fill some gaps

The reason i am mentioning the game is cause it starts you out as a farm hand as the world begins to go a rye. Plus i like being an enabler of concepts and of game playing.

Keep up the good work

Farmvalis is quite the hunk. I like the texture you added with the extra brush strokes.

Farmvalis? X'D Is this your OC you made for Farmville? P:

Bloody loving your colors here, man! Interesting brushes, and use of them, as well! :] Liking the sketchiness of his hand; it's still understandable. But for a pitch, if this is Arvalis's counterego, or whatever, wouldn't you tighten this image up to match Adventurer's?? Just curious!

And good luck on the pitch!!! Sending you positive vibes

Its actually just the outfit he starts the story with. lol i need to keep it loose because i dont have the time to tighten it up, have several more concepts i need to scratch out before tuesday. The adventurer one was done before school started XD. Yeah people seem to be liking the colors on this one, i guess my still life painting class is really helping out. Thanks for the positive vibes as well

Ohhhh ho ho~ I see. I kinda figured you'd be strapped for time

That's great you're seeing some progress in your work, too! Just keep it up

wow man this is really cool. He looks like he'd get along well with my character Sol, he starts life as a blacksmith's apprentice.

Regardless, I really like the very painterly style here, it's an excellent use of photoshop and I am entirely too jealous of your growing ability.

Looks good, but the scythe doesn't look too functional. Needs a curved pole and an angled blade. I never understood how scythes work as a weapon with a design as you have it, but they're cool none-the-less.

I wish I had some help or classes with digital coloring or painting. I'd practice on my own, but I don't really have any time for such things at the moment.

I like that he no longer has huge feet. lol

arvalis In reply to Scyphir [2010-09-30 05:31:18 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i always favored the axe/scythe hybrid look for whatever reason. A friend of mind in class the other day brought his laptop in and was showing me some tips, so crazy helpful. Ive yet to really take a how to digitally paint class per se. Just takes a butt load of dedication. As far as feet size, when wearing boots, and armor plates on top, kinda makes the feet large lo

Farmboys-cum-Warriors are epic.

*totally not saying that cause that's my character as well >o>*

Great job though. Love how all the strokes look in the background. They give it a sort of oil painting feel.

Dude, you've progressed so freaking much! a) what are you smoking, and b) what class are you taking?

Lol, damn, very nice!

arvalis In reply to Eggtastic [2010-09-29 23:09:47 +0000 UTC]

lol really didnt think it looked THAT good, but thanks all the same. I think the two classes that are really helping me are Heads and Hands, and Still Life Paintng in Oils. Apparently i love oil painting, who knew?

painting traditionally helps you digitally? how is this so?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

arvalis In reply to Eggtastic [2010-09-29 23:37:07 +0000 UTC]

Its all just painting, photoshop is just another medium like oil paints. Each tool can do things the other cant. I never painted traditionally before this class, im having a blast. Oil painting is cazy awesome fun.

Eggtastic In reply to arvalis [2010-09-29 23:45:52 +0000 UTC]

So you thinking taking up traditional painting would help digitally?

arvalis In reply to Eggtastic [2010-09-30 00:33:36 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely, i cannot stress enough how much traditional and digital mediums compliment one another.

On every picture i do, i list what program and time taken at the end of the description. I used PhotoshopCS3

He's so cute in a manly but boyish sort of way
it's really hard to describe what I mean
he is obviously a man but he still looks pretty young and inexperienced but obviously no pushover
he's the right balance between slightly pudgy and muscular, he's not too much of either

tl;dr great work as usual owo

Love love love this pic. Great choice of color and the textures are lots of fun.
I suggest changing the color of the shadow on the non-scythe hand as it blends into the tree that's right beside it.
Great job
