Ninetales is one of a select group of Pokemon more prized for its aesthetics than its utility.  Exhibiting a luxurious golden coat and elegant, slender features Ninetales is a common sight in the competitive world of Pokemon Contests.  They derive their common name from their wild appearance, where the are never seen without massive, matted dreads of hair extending from their hindquarters taking on the appearance of multiple tails.  In the wild these extra "tails" serve as a defense mechanism making the Pokemon appear a great deal larger than it really is.  However when bred for competition, these Pokemon are cared for under great scrutiny with daily brushing and are seldom allowed to develop the dread features.  The most highly prized competition Ninetales are seen trailing a nearly 6 foot train of sumptuous hair not visually dissimilar to an opulent gown.

Vulpix, unlike their mature state, offer a rich rufous coat.  Though Vulpix is charming it is quite the little rascal as it is exorbitantly playful.  Very confident and bold, these young Pokemon will tussle with almost any small Pokemon all the while squealing with delight.  It does take a moderate amount of time to develop the hindquarter dreads, as such it is not uncommon to see Vulpix with various numbers of "tails".  Like Ninetales, Vulpix is oft identified with the supernatural and spiritual.  It is said to gaze into their eyes offers a deeply spiritual experience, however you probably shouldn't do that for too long though because those dreads stink like butt.

Trevenant is a very unique cephalopod Pokemon.  Only needing to return to the water for breeding these Pokemon have evolved the ability to live terrestrially. Their soft bodies are easily damaged, calling for the use an unusual defensive adaptation.  They have a specialized beak that allows them to bore into trees and wear the pieces as a specialized armor.  As a result they take on the appearance of moving trees with demonic tendrils sprouting from them.  A ghastly sight to be sure, culminating in the uneducated believing them to be haunted trees or some such nonsense.  They have one major natural predator, the elusive Pacific Northwest Slaking that is rarely sighted by Slaking enthusiasts.

Small and radiant, Litwick are commonly called the candle Pokemon.  In reality Litwick are the polyp stage of the terrestrial jellyfish Pokemon, Chandelure.  Special conditions need to be met to develop full reproductive maturity resulting in the more common sightings of Lampent, the adolescent stage.  Using special gaseous bladders these Pokemon stay aloft trailing their tendrils in an effort to feed on small flying type or bug type Pokemon.  These Pokemon display a dull purple luminescence, resulting in the similar appearance to a ghastly apparition when observed at night.

Honedge, like Foongus have rapidly adapted its appearance to help blend in with the world of man.  With a gleaming silver abdomen and a highly derived thorax, Honedge takes on the superficial appearance of a flying sword.  A mated pair of these Pokemon will rarely leave each others side, this pairing is often referred to as a Doublade.  As the female reaches full breeding maturity, she expands into a shape one might describe as shield-like.  The male will also grow larger, however they retains the blade-like shape.  In this state, known as Aegislash, the male is the hunter though is very susceptible to harm, with the slower, extremely hardy female taking on a defensive position.  Honedge is the Pokemon of choice for a certain fedora-wearing subspecies of man, often collecting many of them for their basement dwellings.

I enjoy the little tidbit about Honedges being the preferred Pokemon of the common mall ninja (neckbeardus weebsteelus).

nursinembers [2018-03-06 19:17:19 +0000 UTC]

I absolutely love that Trevenant is a cephalopod that uses parts of trees and wears them like a shell of armor. Not only that, but boring into a tree will definitely kill it, making the resulting appearance even more ghastly! A dead, rotting tree walking towards you, a trainer would shit their pants. I L-O-V-E that you took something that real octopi do and made it applicable to Pokemon.

Don't let haters get to you... Their imaginations are stunted. This combination of real science with Pokemon is absolutely brilliant, and I created an account JUST so I could show support. I don't understand why some people expect you to draw a "realistic" ghost or a Vanillux as a living ice cream cone.

Can't wait to see what you do next.
