Dun dun dunnnnnnn, happy late Halloween.
It feels so weird to finally reveal Oniken's face. I've kept it a secret for almost ten years, and the realization it's been so long is actually scarier than his looks.
So, we finally have a connection between Ryu and Steel, and now between Steel and Oniken. Can you guys already fill the blanks from here?

Ajna's counterpart... Damn, it makes sense now! I just realized... Oniken might be some "normal" (as much as C.Y. is a normal) wolf while there's C.Y.'s chakra, Ajna. She is kinda as if... not really her, just channeled through C.Y. Well what if Oniken is in the same shoes? He is someone but his powers are from another being. The couterpart of Ajna, the light bringer - something associated with darkness. Like the demon in the vision? Yeah, I feel like I'm getting it! Or I'm terribly wrong. (that wouldn't be a big surprise. I'll be amazed if I'm actually right xD)

I read the whole entire comic from the beginning and (you've improved so much!!) hmmmmmmmMM this is getting real interesting!!

I've actually been wanting yo ask this for a while, but how do you come up with all your characters' cool, ancient-y sounding names that always having a meaning, too? Especially in your comic africa, as well as your original species?

This page looks really good! I love the angles and poses in the first panel and that view of his face in the last panel! His hollow eye sockets and nose give me chills!

I noticed Steele, Jackal, and Oniken all have the same back stripe with the triangle on their head. The only difference with Oniken is that his also has spots. Perhaps they're all related in a way?

He's pretty much Kroenen from the Hellboy movie at this point. Just a poor flesh puppet.

Sticking with my theory. Oniken is Urashima.
Urashima's right eye was destroyed in that fight with Steel. He basically ripped his face apart. One of Urashima's ears was already chewed up and reduced to the size we see here. There was also a significant wound across his chest that I feel like that scarf might be hiding.
ALSO: I know their colours aren't the same, but take a look at Urashima's markings. It's faint, but he also sports that triangular marking on his forehead.
I don't know why, and it might be completely insane or wrong, but I can't seem to let go of this theory. And it still makes me think Kobura and Tiikeri might be Near and Shirotora.

I would say that same question remains, even if Oniken isn’t Urashima, because we know he’s one of Steel’s victims anyway. In other words, I feel it’s something Arven would have to answer for us anyway.

I kinda support it for the reason that Oniken is calling Led by his nickname, which I find kinda odd if Oniken didn't have some sort of close relationship with Led. However Urashima WAS buried if I remember correctly. However if Kobura and Tiikeri were Near and Shirotora, shouldn't they show signs or remembering Led and CY? Ryu did remember them
However that Kobura and Tiikeri are Near and Shirotora seems like a very strong theory in most comments so I think it could be

My theory is that because he was buried, it caused more destruction to his face, due to decomposition and such, which could also explain why his body looks the way it does. To put it shortly, I think he was indeed dead and buried for a while.

And I was so sure that he would have three eyes since back than when he made fun of C.Y.'s third eye and I thought he just wanted nobody to know that in fact he has three eyes, too.
But instead he has no eyes at all. In fact he seems to be some kind of undead zombie. He looks like one of these scary mummified corpses that are n display in
some museums which only consist of a skeleton covered with skin.
I somehow feel sorry for him, this kind of existence (I don't think you can call it "life" as I don't think he is really alive anymore) probably isn't great.
But I wonder how he could cooperate with Ryu if Ryu is in fact Steel? Was he forced to do so by Jackal or by Ryu/Steel himself? Or didn't he realize it until now?
I wondered if Steel somehow survived and changed his appearance when he joined the Zodiac Demons, like it happened with Omen and Charon. But in page 189 Kobura tells that Ryu was normal until his personality suddenly chanced about one year ago, so probably that was the point when he was somehow possessed by Steel.
(This page also shows that Ryu and Kobura looked the same before they joined the Zodiac Demons, so this might be some kind of "continuity error", as the concept that the Zodiac Demons were more or less normal wolves that chanced there appearance when the joined the Demons permanently (even if they should decide to leave the demons later) probably wasn't developed back than.)

maybe they were both a part of the demons a year ago? seeing as Kobura is kinda young they both might have joined when he was still in puppyhood seeing as he was still pretty small in that flash back

I still can't help thinking, what if Steel was a good guy who got corrupted after a fight with the Destiny Sword (and perhaps the 12 tailed beast?) (perhaps in the fight that disfigured Oniken's face?)
Agreeing with the possibly that Oni's body is just a puppet or a vessel for a more sinister being.
I still find it peculiar for someone to have been glad for Cy to kill his enemy to have worked alongside that same soul without complaint until now.
