Description This is a portrait of Keema, a sheltie. Isn't she cute? I started this before I took on cheap commissions, and kinda picked it back up while figuring out *Dark-Memory 's pieces. I wasn't sure it would turn out at first, but every time I walked in the door and saw it, I liked it more. This piece was done as a free commission for a dog groomer. She keeps the original, wherever she wants, and displays a print with my business cards in her salon. Hopefully, it works out for me.

I tried something kinda different with the background, to make it go quicker. What do you think? Suggestions to improve? Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. Although, I am coming to the conclusion that watercolor anything doesn't scan so well. It does look a lot better in real life. The grass under tail doesn't blend so much, and the sky is just smoother overall.

Not really. I had a good reference photo. Just laid in the shadows first and built from there.

The movement of the fur with the wind is just amazing! Also the colouring, the degradee effect of the colouring of it is very soft and realistic...awesome work

Thank you! The fur had me intimidated for quite awhile, but as I got going, I realized it was actually pretty easy!

You did a really kick ass job on this and for a 'quicker bg' it works really nice with this dog and maybe thats cuz its so detailed and lovely that if you did try a background with something in it, it would take away from the subject.

I love the fur, it looks so silky. A breed Challenge huh? *checks it out*

I'm always trying to find ways to make nice background without spending ten or more hours on them. (Like most of my skies and stuff . . . ) She really liked the picture and thought the background was just perfect.

This is absolutely gorgeous - and so life like. You even managed to capture the sunlight on the fur (and fur that is so terrifying to draw too).

You know, you did such a good job on this that - if it's possible, I wouldn't mind upgrading my comission to a colour piece like this one It'd make a perfect gift for my mum.

Aryenne In reply to Maeix2 [2009-05-01 02:33:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I am happy you like it! The fur was really intimidating, but as I started into it, I realized it was easier than I expected. Not unlike anatomy, just kinda block in shapes and shade around it.

Sure! However, could you send me a couple more photos of your boy in sunlight? In the photo I'm doing, all his colors are kind of faded. I've still got *Dark-Memory 's two pieces, and one for ~Feathered-Dragon (hers should go pretty fast too), so you can wait to send money. It's up to you!

Maeix2 In reply to Aryenne [2009-05-01 09:18:59 +0000 UTC]

It's gorgous

It's strange - some things that seem really scary turn out to be a lot less so once we get our teeth into it. Guess artists tend to put themselves down a lot - we're better than we thing

Really? Sweet.
Ok - I'll try and hunt some up. I might need to ask mum, hopefully she won't ask what I want them for *crosses fingers*
Well *thinks* how about you let me know what the extra amount will be when you're getting finished with the ones you're workong on, and I'll send it then? I'm pretty sure you'll be more inclined to remember wanting to be paid than me. That work for you?

You should do English Bulldog for E. You're more than welcomed to use Kaylee as a reference!

I love the colors on this. They're soft yet very vibrant.

Aryenne In reply to Elvandia [2009-04-30 04:13:57 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I had planned on that! My family used to own an English bulldog. She was so awesome. I do miss that girl. I'll have to browse your gallery for reference photos. I think most of ours didn't turn out very good!

And thank you! The colors drew me to it initially. I still have to get this to Keema's owner. Hopefully I get a few commissions from her clients!

They're such a wonderful breed of dog! I really don't think I want another breed. You're more than welcomed and I have a lot more than what's in my gallery so just message if you'd like to see more.

I sure hope you can.

I'm in love with how the pastel colours and the smooth blending really make the fur look so delicate, fluffy and soft. <3

Very nice~

The realistic quality of this almost makes it look like it's a portrait. Amazing job! I mean it. The fur is so detailed, and all the colors in it are beautifully done.

On a side note, shelties are cute. XD

Shelties are very cute! Keema is a little anti-social. She'd never come say hi to me, just follow her mom around. (Kinda sounds like my dogs . . . ) I am very happy you like it! Thank you!
