Description Orphic Awakening - egg tempera, casein & oil on wood - 11.5x18.4 inches - 2011-12.
This is one of my newest paintings - headliner for my solo show opening in Denver, CO at the Knew Conscious Gallery on Feb. 11th. Check out my website for more info! www.amandasage.com
If you're in the area come check out the show! My original painting 'Ana-Suromai' (lifting of the skirt piece) will also be on display (it's life size..

This is a self portrait and it is a prayer for the times to come... I have hope, I see the veils lifting and know that we are transcending into a golden era... it is time to set down the swords and dance... my locks represent matter & the past... I carry them with respect & reverence & look beyond as we evolve & learn to LOVE MORE....

Let me start off by saying that you truly are extremely talented and your artwork completely amazes me. I'm very interested on this specific kind of art, not because of "drugs" or because it looks "trippy" but because it just looks so intriguing and fascinating, but I just never could wrap myself around how to or even where to start if I wanted to paint something like this. I'm a 20 year old girl from Georgia that has a great imagination but just doesn't know where to star. I was just wondering if you had any uploads that were like this but only showed the first layer or halfway through, like I said I just don't know where to start... I draw but not like this. If you or anyone you'd know that could show me some examples or help a girl out I'd really appreciate it! Love your work and much love!Β

as always I find your work to be amazing, the way that the line work just pulls you and moves the eye across the piece. I'm curious to know how you are using egg tempera and oils together. I've just started working in egg tempera myself, usually I work in oils but I'm finding that the tempera allows for better details and a very different quality of color.

sorry for the trite observation... i'm sure you already got quite a few of those responses. it's got its own, modern flavor, no doubt, which stands apart from his work. although some of the symbology seems older too... like the serpent and step pyramid tying in mesoamerican tropes (see Santayana).

anyway, very cool!

perhaps trope, in that sense, was incorrectly used. either way, what i meant was something while a powerful symbol in its time, still holds meaning, essence, or even power for those of us in modern time. whether that be subconscious and/or spiritual, based in a set of beliefs, or religious, or even just holding cognitive reference to historical aspects of the area from which the symbols arose.

hopefully thats more coherent! LOL. again, liking it a lot. and am happy for your feature, and the well deserved exposure it brings you.

hey thanks for ur comments!!! I do get a lot of people commenting on the similarity of my work with Alex Grey's work & for sure in ways I have been influenced by his work... I have also worked for many years with one of his mentors Ernst Fuchs, if you are not familiar with his work, I'd advise looking it up ....As for the symbolism, yes ancient symbols... they seem to be quite relevant to where we are now, as I feel time is folding in upon itself and reaching into our past is helping us understand the present & future... ? many of the symbols in my paintings including the messages within them come through subconsciously... it is fun to decipher to say the least
