Aye, did the same thing. I build up a shield and unconsciously tossed my heart outside to feel less pain. Took me years to realize what I sacrifised to keep going. And when I did the shield that protected me became a barrier keeping me locked up and feeling empty. Your heart is not dead, it's behind that barrier. It will come back to you when you dare to let your defences down.
