well, if you dont study it, then it might come out to have five feet because its one's style. It might not be as obvious as five feet, but its little things. also if you stylize for example the beak of an owl to be bigger than it is, it might come out looking like an eagle. I used to not care about anatomy, but it has helped me alot, not just to make my animals look correct, but for other things. Also one learns the correct way to do it, then bends the rules. no hard feelings, just sayin'.

So, on the diagram on both front and back legs, what do the lines (the lower line that the foot rests on and the random line going through the diagram) represent? Is there a certain distance and what is the approximate ratio of the bones?

Great tutorial! This will help soooo much! XP

From what I can see, the demonstration is bone length in certain locations as well as where it connects with the ribs.
In the first example, the shoulder blade comes down and pulls back more parallel with the bottom of the ribs, while the second diagram shows it extend (improperly) down away from the ribs. creating a taller, distorted look.

I hope that helps somewhat, but unfortunately I'm unfamiliar with the scientific terms for a canines bone structure. Hope this helped.

So what you're saying (to sum it up) (this might be useful to put this in the description of the image) is:

"The elbow is in line with the bottom of the rib cage, it is not higher than that, it is not lower than that."

Yes?

Something I've known for a long long time - but something I don't do very often.

Other than that it looks good
