Description Ren and Bya chibis. Finally posting something Bleach related... I've had a terrible art block for a while. Probably because I don't like the latest arc.

Drawn and colored in SAI. Edited in PS CS5.
Background is scrapbooking paper I scanned in.

Nice. Are you disappointed becaue Kubo's writing is sloppy now to say the least despite the hype of the final arc?

Exactly! There's way too much in each chapter, no new character development, loose ends everywhere and the whole Byakuya saga went from being a very sad thing to almost being annoying... he's dead, no he's not, oh now he's dead, etc. Heh, I'm rambling.

A lot of people are easily amused though which is why he gets away with this. If only the Japanese fans would protest...Wishful thinking I know. It's clear Shounen Jump just wants to make money and Kubo signed on for this.

I agree about the Bya-kun thing. I could rant a lot about all the things Kubo is doing wrong just for the sake of excitement I suppose.

To keep it simple without going into detail:

1) Bankai breaking is ridiculous
2) Bankai stealing is ridciulous
3) Ichigo being part Quincy cements his Gary Stuness

The explanation for all these things make no sense and undermine what he's established in the past.

Kubo did rush this first part of the arc only to do head into a training arc.

I agree... none of these new developments make sense considering what we've already read. And in this last chapter Ichigo can get a bankai back that's really close to his original... ridiculous... it'll probably be everything he's had plus Quincy powers. Ugh. Him being part Quincy makes no sense... why didn't his mother use Quincy powers instead of being killed by Grand Fisher. And now Kugo Ginjo is back? His death scene was really sad but now he's not dead - I'm confused.

I read several months ago that Bleach's popularity in fan surveys was really low so maybe this is Kubo's way of trying to get back on top. And even though we've only seen a hand so far, supposedly Grimmjow is back? lol! Ulquiorra is next!

I did hear the rankings tanked for the LSS arc, but this is ridiculous and sloppy way of getting back on track lol. I never thought Kubo would write the stuff he's writing now even though I knew Bleach was suffering from prolongation.

Did you ever read what he had planned for this arc? Well it seems he's writing crazy stuff in getting to the stuff he needs to cover i.e Isshin.

He had mentioned something about Masaki possibly not being dead. Even then, I had a bad feeling it would mean that there was a cover up about her death. I was just hoping they'd find her in the SS now that Grand Fisher is dead. Masaki being a Quincy is utterly ridiculous in my opinion. Ichigo with Quincy powers is a no-no in my book. Kubo's writing has already made me get annyoed by Ichigo, which is one of my fave characters next to Rukia.

I never liked the Fullbringers so I was glad they were gone...Why would he bring them back if that's the reason Bleach sucked during the LSS arc? Lol.

I figured ratings would pick up when the final arc was announced. The LSS arc was such a letdown after the Arrancar arc and I figured we would return to that level of excitement but this is like wtf?? I didn't read anything about Kubo's plan for this arc except that about a year ago he said this arc would be twice as long as the arrancar arc. I find that hard to believe with the way everything is being crammed in. Maybe Shonen Jump forced him to condense? I'm guessing there will be some sort of flashback to explain why Isshin is no longer a captain, etc. And kind of unrelated, but I've seen some speculation that Byakuya's father Soujun could make an appearance in a SS flashback.

All I know is if Ichigo is a Quincy then Kubo has finally sold out because that just doesn't make sense.

I know what you mean about his pacing in this current arc, but he's slowing down to write chapters about training. He's just streching his time to fulfill a contract he shouldn't have extended which is why we're getting such ridiculous content. I would say he has sold out. I just didn't think he would stoop so low as to making Ichigo half Quincy. It's sad to see such a great series fall apart.

Here's a link of the final arc info:

I agree... he totally sold out. Thanks for that link... it reminded me of a couple things I had forgotten - like Ichigo being called a trueblood at one point. Still hoping he's not going to be a Quincy though.

No prob.I'm afraid the true blood bit means he'll be related to the Soul King or somethng. Overkill again I tell ya, especially with the Quincy heritage if it's true.

We'll see though because it seems Isshin might be related to the Shibas. I hope Kukaku meant Isshin when she said uncle

Do you think most of the fan base adores shounen exaggeration?

Ashcat-desu In reply to asdarklover [2012-12-06 06:07:15 +0000 UTC]

That's who "uncle" is!! I had no idea who Kukaku was talking about when she said that but it only makes sense. Especially since Ichigo and Kaien look so much alike. I love Isshin... I'd like to see him in the storyline soon.

Are you talking about fan service or all the ridiculous crap we've seen in this arc so far? Before this arc I would have said no, the Bleach fan base wants more than hype but lately no one seems to mind much and if they do they aren't saying much. And speaking of fan service... quite a bit of that this week.

asdarklover In reply to Ashcat-desu [2012-12-07 04:33:21 +0000 UTC]

Remember, in the link I gave you Kubo said he was finally gonna address Kaien and Ichigo's resemblance so this must be it. I wanna see Isshin too, but Kubo is dragging out the storyline with him.

Well, I was referring to the ridiculous writing we've seen thus far in this arc, specifically exagerrated power ups and storyline. It seems Kubo is focusing on catering to his market fanbase, which supposedly adores those things even though his original fans have grown up and may no longer like that. Bleach has never been too exagerrated in my opinion. He is incorporating things I would deem from exaggerated fanfics i.e the Quincy heritage.

Kubo has been doing a lot of fan service since the Shinigami arrived on the scene in the LSS arc. All those physical changes were done to generate hype though he was also probably bored with their design since its been 10 years since he started. However, it doesn't make sense why they would change their style after being the same for decades. After this arc,I would understand why they changed.

Keep in mind its the Japanese fans that need to speak up since its the main fanbase. Sadly though it seems they along with everyone on dA around the world seems too excited about the arc and they aren't paying attention to all of Kubo's failings. It's why he can get away with such poor writing. It really feels like he writes whatever. When I read the info I gave you, I felt reassured by his plan after the terrible LSS arc, but now I have lost faith in him. It looks like he's writing whatever despite what he needs to cover.

It's too bad that Kubo isn't thinking about the fans that have been reading Bleach for 10 years and have been around that long because Bleach has always been [until recently] a well-written manga with a lot of really good character designs. Before this last arc started I was disappointed that Kubo announced Bleach would be ending but at the same time I looked forward to it because I thought it was going to be equal to or better than the arrancar arc. I began having doubts during the LSS arc because he seemed to have gotten lazy in his drawing - based on how boring the Fullbring character designs were. Then when the main characters came out after the time skip, it seemed like he opted for easier drawing options for every character... Rukia's hair, boring, easy to draw, Byakuya - much easier to draw kenseikan, Renji's bigger headband covers up most of his tattoos. But like you said, their new looks attracted a lot of attention and (Grimmjow will probably have a new flat, easier to draw hairstyle when we seem him again and Aizen probably won't have have his flowing mane with the long bitch curl in the front [I heard someone call it that a long time ago and I thought it was funny]. Is it just me or did the preview of the Soul King look a lot like one of Aizen's incarnations?

asdarklover In reply to Ashcat-desu [2012-12-08 04:35:41 +0000 UTC]

I agree wholeheartedly. It really is a pity that he doesn't care about the fans that followed him throughout the years. I know marketing wise the manga caters to 15 to 18 year old, but I don't see that as excuse to write so poorly when he knows most of his fans have grown up. Still, I know a lot of people love this arc, and love power ups. I don't understand why people don't understand that makes if Ichigo obtains every power he is a Gary Stu. The main character card can't support his overpoweredness.

I was dissapointed Kubo continued past the HM arc. A series is supposed to end with the defeat of the main villain. It was anticlimatic.

I think SJ convinced to write past the HM arc and thus his subsquent storyline change of the Hogyoku and all that ensued. I felt Kubo could have wrapped all his loose ends and had Aizen defeated Ichigo without the use of the FGT. The use of those powers was redundant because if it hadn't been for Urahara's seal, Aizen would have killed Ichigo after the latter used it. Ichigo's role was really to stall, I suppose, but still it wasn't good.

Kubo waited 17 months in manga time to write the destruction of the SS when he could have written it with Aizen. It would have been better.

I have accepted that every series must come to an end. Hopefully a good end. Dragging out a series is terrible because what is happening to Bleach happens. I might be sad when I finally read the final chapter of Bleach, but I'm really eager for its end. I would want to be somewhat satisfied when it ends, but who knows at this point...

I never thought about him being lazy in character designs, just tired and out of ideas for the Fullbring people lol. Not that they mattered anyway. Ugh, I never wanted to see them again. Kubo apparently can't leave the dead alone.

You make a good point about the simplicity of the new character designs. I would have wanted Rukia to have longer hair. A lot of people considered her boyish before the change, you would think he would wanna make her more feminine. At first, I wasn't into her new look, but it's grown on me. I'm surprised he can draw her cute with short hair.

I think a told you a couple of messages back, peole get easily amused don't they? lol.

Yes, the Soul King looks like Aizen's incarnations. Kubo always recycles his designs. I wonder if the resemblance is tied to what Aizen saw when he was using the Hogyoku. I wasn't sure if the King would actually have a physical appearance since Aizen and Urahara referred to him as 'it.' He can still be an 'it' though regardless of his shape.

I think you're right about SJ convincing Kubo to continue Bleach past Hueco Mundo. The progression makes so much more sense... Aizen tears up Karakura town, then Soul Society and before he can become Soul King Ichigo defeats him with Final Getsuga Tenshou which ends Ichigo's powers... end of Bleach. I always thought Final Getsuga Tenshou was a little stupid... it lasted like 5 minutes and then Urahara put a stop to Aizen. I understand SJ wanting to keep Bleach going because of its popularity at the time but they could have ended it on a high note (with the story still making sense) and then started it up a year or two later like Naruto did with Naruto Shippuden if they really wanted to. Or just let it end... like Death Note. Great manga but it ended.

It's unfortunate money plays a massive role in ruining creative works. I know it's hard to find the next big hit, but they'll eventually be one. Kubo and SJ have already made a ton of money. If Kubo and SJ wanted to make more money, Kubo should have written spin offs of characters and not prolonged Bleach. I'm sure people would want to learn about certain characters.

I wouldn't have liked if Ichigo had lost his powers since I think he belongs in the SS. Kubo could have ended Bleach without the use of FGT and a differetn Aizen fight. FMA is an example of a well written manga where I didn't mind the main character losing his powers.

I actually wouldn't have minded if Ichigo lost his powers at the end... it would have left the door open to spin offs like you said or a "new" Bleach where Ichigo is older and working to gain back his powers but doesn't ever encounter the Fullbring characters.

I've never watched FMA... I've been meaning to but it's not at the top of my list. Not sure I would like it.

asdarklover In reply to Ashcat-desu [2012-12-12 04:27:07 +0000 UTC]

I see. Such a storyline would actually make Ichigo's sacrifice more real since it would take years for him to recover his powers.I think fans of other characters would be more inclined to learn about them in the character's manga instead of another Ichigo based story.

Not every series is for anyone, but I highly recommend it because its a well written story.
