Dunno what it is about this picture, but it makes me laugh. Maybe it's the expression on the face, maybe it's the belt buckle... Either way, great job! XD

Denim-Trousers [2011-05-02 11:29:33 +0000 UTC]
I think this could do with a redraw, if I'm gonna be totally honest. The focus should be on the gun, but with your composition, it's more focussed toward her right leg. The fluttering of her coat only enhances this, as it draws the eye toward her leg. It also doesn't help that, with the perspective used, the leg is drawn larger than the gun, while the gun itself is sort of squashed into the upper left.
Not only that, but the numerous, static lines on the inside of her jacket make it feel a flat board, rather than a coat billowing in three dimensions. Your shading elsewhere on her body flows with the shapes of the object (her breasts, legs, hands, feet, etc.), but the shading of the jacket doesn't follow its curves. There are no highlights, only spotted blacks and a whole mess of vertical lines.
Lastly, if the gun is being fired twice ('Bang bang'), there should be some sort of recoil. That would make the piece all the more dynamic -- to be able to see the force of a firearm. Even though it's a fun drawing, it still ought to obey the laws of physics. Simply putting a bit of muzzle flash in there and a couple sound effects cues does little to show the full power of a gun.
All in all, it's a nice piece, but essentially flawed. If you really want to make it pop, pull her left leg back, put greater emphasis on the gun, and lose some of the awkward-looking 'shading' on the coat. Then you'll have a winner.

Haha, no problem. Sorry if I came off a bit harsh; I tend to really get going with little regard to how it's coming out.

Ah, I guess some might have been offended, but I see where you're coming from. A wholesome critique is good for ya now and again. Besides, you made a bunch of good points. So... not harsh, just straightforward!

Right on. And believe me, I ain't perfect either. I tend to use critiques as a means of thinking about my own work at the same time.

Sorry, I meant to say 'right leg' in that final paragraph, not left.
