I knew that Murdoc was based on Grinch! They both are charismatic greenfaced criminals, and Jamie was inspired by Seuss and other 60-70s cartoons, and this is just obivious that Grinch was one of the Murdoc's prototypes! 

P.S. Murdoc and Shrek came out the same year
