While I do agree that The Puppets was a clever episode, with a well done puppets segment and we can all agree on how great a song The Fun Will Never End is, unfortunately what ruins the episode for me is that they made it look as if Gumball and Darwin were giving up on their childhoods! Sure, the toys they were getting out of their loft to have flogged at the yard sale had been in the loft for 7 years by that point, but Gumball was pretty mean towards Darwin, he was bullying him into allowing them to be sold! What especially hinders me from being able to rewatch the episode is that Gumball even tells Darwin “we are too old to play with toys and dolls!â€! Seriously?
- at age 12, Gumball and Darwin should both have some childhood left in them.
- 7 years is a long time, throughout which Gumball and Darwin will have received plenty more toys, as we have seen here and there throughout the series
- had the two not thought that maybe they would have kids of their own in later life, whom they can hand their toys down to?
I apologise for overthinking, characters giving up on their childhoods is one of my least favorite tropes in storytelling. You may want to check out the alternate ending I came up with for this episode.
