Here comes the Asian history geek to explain all! *pulls out pointer stick and points to blank chalkboard* You see, although China ruled most of Asia in the beginning, the two countries that were never under its rule were Japan and Thailand. Japan was a separate empire, and they received a lot of assistance from China in growing as a country, but they were never under China's rule. In other words, there really was no reason for Japan to attack China. More than anything, it was because they thought the Chinese people were inferior to them and that they were better suited to take over Asia. They even referred to the Chinese as the Japanese word for "lumber" throughout the war as a way of saying they could cut down and use the Chinese however they wanted.
...Yeah, not happy at all. This was one of the reasons America ended up joining the war. We cut off all trade to Japan until they agreed to pull out of China, but they needed our resources for their weapons. That's what lead to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, America joining the war, and the eventual bombings and surrender of Japan. I think that's probably why Japan doesn't have an actual military anymore. I don't know for sure since I'm not Japanese, but I get the feeling they probably don't trust themselves with one anymore.

Other Admin: Now, that's a difficult question to answer. I can't be certain, but since at the end of the strip where Japan attacked China he is shown telling all his woes to Russia in a bar, it's possible that he knew. Not only that, but historically it was not long after the Japanese attacked China that China and Russia formed an incredibly strong alliance. We can't be positive whether or not Russia knew, but it's my headcannon that he does know and really hates Japan. That's why he's always cursing Japan with stomachaches.

They have tried to apologize for the things they've done, but it's never good enough. What they did was wrong, but they've changed so much. :< It's like Germany...

Other Admin: And I can answer this question! Technically, no. That's why he's always denying it in the webcomics. Actually, most of China's "siblings" aren't really related to him. You could say that he adopted them, like how he found Japan in the bamboo forest for example. China just took in all these children he found and took on the role of their older brother. Most of them don't acknowledge him as such, though. The only person I know for certain is related to him is Hong Kong. I'm not sure about Taiwan and Macau, but it's possible. Vietnam, Korea, and Japan are not related to him. Does that answer your question?
