Description Question: Tomomi: Do you like polar lights? From
--
Answer: Indeed I do. Every time I spot it from my window, I always have to run outside with my wolf to watch it until I am so tired... to the point that I have to go home. Not only are they beautiful, dancing in the night sky, but they are like a part of me, and of course, a part of why my economy is growing.

((How do you draw the Aurora Borealis and snow? I tried looking for references but they all did not help... Anyway, I tried my best. Sorry for being inactive, guys...

I'm also going to use this for a temporary ID too.

Excellent work there! Especially the wolf with its fur and feather details looks just great.
I'd add more darker gradient to the sky, the aurora would be more visible and vivid then.

That is a great suggestion. Maybe next time I draw the aurora I can do that. It's really hard to draw the aurora... I never am able to make it look right when I draw them.))

awesome. you did a really great job with the details and his fabrics and the fur!! the only thing iwould say is the wings on the wolf looks a bit strange, i think you might need to check the perspective on that one (the right wing looks like it's on his left shoulder, his left wing is on his neck..... ^^") other than that, i think you did a great job with all the textures! the snow looks really real....haha good job ^_^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ask-SindreAndSvetki In reply to xRAMENformee [2013-01-28 07:52:42 +0000 UTC]

xRAMENformee In reply to Ask-SindreAndSvetki [2013-01-29 07:24:25 +0000 UTC]

LOL okay in that case, totally my mistake XD i thought that the curved top part of it was a completely separate wing, haha sorry for being confused ^^"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ask-SindreAndSvetki In reply to xRAMENformee [2013-01-29 21:40:19 +0000 UTC]

((What curved part are you mentioning? You mean the dark blue piece of sky? It's okay, sometimes things are a bit misleading, and I know I suck at object composition in an art piece anyway... People make mistakes all the time. ))

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xRAMENformee In reply to Ask-SindreAndSvetki [2013-01-29 21:50:47 +0000 UTC]

no like, that tip part of his wing? the "Alula" (the yellow part in this picture: [link] )

i think it might be because most wings usually don't curve that much, but i get that it's partially stylized so... ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ask-SindreAndSvetki In reply to xRAMENformee [2013-01-29 21:53:24 +0000 UTC]

((The thing is that the picture you sent me was of a pigeon wing, and I modeled this off a spread out eagle wing. During an eagle's flight the alula is spread out. Also, I don't see why it could be mislead as another wing... but maybe it is because I am stupid, that's all. ^^))

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xRAMENformee In reply to Ask-SindreAndSvetki [2013-01-29 22:04:44 +0000 UTC]

ah okay. (LOL yeah, sorry about the pigeon wing...i literally just googled "bird wing anatomy" and picked the first one that looked suitable ._.)
yes that makes sense. i still feel like the angle is just a *little* bit off? but really, its a moot point, and i'm sorry for nit picking XD
I probably mistook it the first time because of the different angle, and i didn't look at it closely enough so i just assumed they were two tiny little (anatomically incorrect but still interesting looking) wings, and You probably can't tell what i'm talking about because (you're not stupid!!!) you definitely spent so much time and effort on it, so you know exactly what it is. anyways/ sorry again ^^" XD

Ask-SindreAndSvetki In reply to xRAMENformee [2013-01-30 08:44:35 +0000 UTC]

(({It's okay, I tend to be lazy with stuff like that as well... }

What do you mean by the angle though? The tilt or the spread of the wing? Oh, I see. Also, I want to mention that I am way too lazy to draw two wings. Yeah, I was thinking about that as well. But art isn't always for yourself though; you have to make sure that other people understand and this tells me that I did not do a decent job of it. Oh well, I always have next time to do a large scale work like this... {probably in the summer anyway} No need to be sorry! It's just my stupidity and I~))

Very beautiful work!

For Aurora Borealis, I use gaussian and vertical motion blurs.
But I think there are other methods.

Ask-SindreAndSvetki In reply to Anarloth [2013-01-20 22:24:11 +0000 UTC]

((Thank you!

Oh, I see, thanks for the advice! I should try that out one day.
For art, there are so many other methods to do one thing, but there are better ones and worse ones, of course.))

Anarloth In reply to Ask-SindreAndSvetki [2013-01-21 09:57:31 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome!

And for doing Aurora, I use another layer, and several colors. I apply blurs a few times.

Just the airbrush with quite soft pressure should give a good result too. I should try.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ask-SindreAndSvetki In reply to Anarloth [2013-01-22 04:11:46 +0000 UTC]

((I use another layer as well. About blurs; I don't use them but I use the smudge tool instead.

I don't have pressure since I don't have a tablet.

Experimenting is a really good thing, though I am often too lazy to do too much though... ))

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Anarloth In reply to Ask-SindreAndSvetki [2013-01-22 13:59:54 +0000 UTC]

Oh okay.

I don't know what is smudge lol (English is not my native language).

You can try with opacity of the layer. And maybe duplicate the layer and move one a bit.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ask-SindreAndSvetki In reply to Anarloth [2013-01-23 03:54:01 +0000 UTC]

((Smudging is kind of like blending the colours. You know when you use your finger to blend colours together? (What was your native language?)

Hm... maybe that will work too. I'll try.))
