"Long, long ago, shortly after the birth of the Multiverse, there arose a great power that would destroy everything: Life. But this is not the life you know of today, the one that works in balance with nature; this was primordial life, which was ingrained into the very fabric of reality and would do anything to fulfill its functions (eat, breath, reproduce). And in its desire to do so, it created the Immortals, ultimate beings who knew not Death and whose wants would rip the Multiverse asunder."
"In response to this, the Three and their Servants, the beings who created the Multiverse and personified it, knew they could not simply destroy Life without destroying the Multiverse. To do this, they used part of Life's own fabric to craft me into being, like fabric for a ragdoll. I was created for the sole purpose of fighting these horrible beings. But back then, I lacked a mind; I was only a tool to be used, a thing without motive, want, or freedom."
"That changed after the war, after I had forced the Immortals and Life to make the decision to bow to Sister Death. Now that Life was not immortal, the Immortals knew they too would die one day. In retatliation to this, they swore vegenance on the Servants and Three and cursed me with the power of intelligence. Now that I could think for myself, I was a slave, for I could not be given freedom without being destroyed in the process. Thus, I Diedrick, was first truly born."
