He didn't know. There was always that feeling that made the hairs on his neck rise.
Something was watching him. Where? How? The wasteland stretched to the horizon with no
sight of anything or anyone watching.
But the feeling remained.

Just wandering unknown terrain for so long, you loose track of time.
the lands reach as far as the eyes can see. and even if you can't see it, you know there is a sentient being in your field of view.
it gives you an unsettling feeling, though you don't know why.
