In case a "fail"...you will lost one character for A or B, but both characters for C.
D will give you a defence advantage for next turn.

C has a 50% chance to lose both team members for a 25% chance to win. A little too risky for my taste, especially when A and B only risks losing one team member

Well it depend on who you want the victor to be C could be seen as either a 25% chance of taking The Black Bishop and Tower from the board or a 50% of eliminating the White Knight and Queen from the game. (Chess analogy)
After all this is as much a strategy game as it is a choice game.
