Description Star Of Wonder ~ Cosmic Epiphany
©2008 Michael C. Turner Galactic Visions Space Art

An infant spiral galaxy creates a dramatic appearance with a brilliant burst of light from its jetting nucleus, illuminating intergalactic space as viewed from the frozen surface of a planet in a companion galaxy. Three majestic rock spires appear to gaze in adoration upon this new born "Stellar King" like “Celestial Magi” following the epiphanic “Star of Prophecy.”
There is much religious iconic symbolism in this scene. Most notably, the Magi’s Star or the Star of Bethlehem as it is frequently called. The Holy Trinity in One is echoed throughout the painting with three major stars. The central "star" created by the quasar galaxy’s burst of light with its spectrum (rainbow) rays represents God’s covenant with humans. The three rock spires symbolize the Magi who sought Christ that they might worship Him and is one of the central themes of the Epiphany of Christ. In traditional Christian theology the manifestation of Christ to the Magi represented the revelation of God’s holy light to the gentiles that they might be included in salvation. In my own perception of this I believe this to represent God revealing himself to the entire universe or cosmos and, thus, my title and concept for this painting, “Cosmic Epiphany."

Christmas ~ Anno Domini 2008

I trust everyone who views this shall enjoy at least the painting. The religious verse is a vital part of my very being however, I do not wish for anyone to feel that I am excluding their own personal beliefs. If everyone will simply give the gift of kindness to those around them then the cosmos/universe will be truly filled with a "Cosmic Epiphany." I wish the best of all good things now and in the future to everyone across The Creator's wondrously diverse universe . . . Let Your Light Shine . . . Michael C. Turner

**********************************************************************************************
"Star OF Wonder ~ Cosmic Epiphany" was created using Corel Photo- Paint 12 paint program to simulate traditional pigment and brush techniques. Every stroke was hand done using a mouse. No computer rendering with speical effects brushes or pictures were used. Essentially this is a painting done in traditional style uisng digital paints rather than physical pigments and brushes. If you compare this with my traditional space art paintings you will see they are indeed very similar. In fact most of the few digital paintings I have posted are actually only minor digital modifications of my original acrylic on canvas paintings. The exception is this particular one which is not based upon a previous painting. I did this in response to a challenge to create an original painting, not based upon a previous canvas painting, using only a basic paint program. Even though I appreciate the advantages of digital art and greatly admire accomplished digital artists and their art, I still prefer to create most of my art using traditional pigments and bristle brushes on cloth canvases.

I sthe whole thing digital. or is it part traditional like the others? the fact I can't tell means you blended both mediums in really well, and I like that spectrum effect in the rays coming off the main nucleus of the star too

Greetings Matthew,

Actually this one is 100% digital. I created it from a blank page using Corel Photo-Paint 12 and my trusty mouse. My intention was to replicate traditonal acrylic and brush tecniques using only the basic paints and brushes. The image itself is loosely based upon a prior acrylic and canvas painting however, I did not use a scanned/digital image or use any of it directly. Your comment tells me that I was somewhat succesful for I know you have very high standards. Your latest works truly show how well you are utilizing your newest tecnological artist's tools. I am confident you shall go far with your art, espically as you have so many productive years ahead of you . . .

I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas and the best of all New Years . . .

My best,
Michael

In that case, I think you "faked" the look of traditional art really well I remember when I converted from Traditional to Digital, it was a slow process and for many years I practiced both. But the house I lived in (with my family) had only one room where I could paint, an dit was a semi-outdoor area that was unbearably hot in summer and freezing in Winter, so I was limited in how much I could paint I guess that kinda turned me off it, along with I hated having to set up, and pack up all the paints and brushes etc every day too, and the cost of buying new paints and tools all the time (then again, the cost of one good digital art program adds up to around the same as buying traditional paints for a year ) But still, even though I have given up traditional art, all those years of me doing it beforehand means I'll always have a certain respect for traditional art

And that tablet is doing me wonders too, I went many years without one at first, but I think I still should have gotten it a long time ago. I guess you could buy one if you start thinking that you might rely more heavily on Digital art in the future, since especially for a traditional artist - it feels much more "painterly"

Greetings Matthew,

Thank you. I appreciate you sharing this with me. Yes, I am considering obtaining a newer Wacom (The Cintiq 21UX, Pen-On-Screen)in the near future that will indeed make digital painting feel a bit more like traditional. Even though traditional painting is a bit messy and bothersome to set up/clean up I know shall never go 100% digital. Of course according to an ancient proverb . . . one should never say never . . . for the future often reveals new paths for us to follow . . . With your gift for artistic expression I am sure you shall have a very bright path whatever the future may reveal . . .

My best,
Michael C. Turner

Wow! I LOVE the contrast. Caught my attention in an instant. And you really have it going to the focal point with the spiral galaxy. Well done indeed.
