THE most epic guitar I've seen. I'd choose it over the Gibson

Is that a HEAVILY modified Gibson Flying V? And can you do that to my Explorer, too?!

It's a Washurn Dime, but yeah, I can do this to another guitar. I'm working on a flying V blank right now

What a splendiferous machine!

I too am embarking on a conversion job (more prop work than working model I'm afraid).

This shows some extraordinary styling - do the meters work also?
I have seen an on line tutorial by someone who devised such a system to have a visual reference to the quantity of his broadband traffic... Will try and find it for you.

If the meters work - that would indeed be the icing on a most exquisite cake!

The pressure meter is actually part of an inline ari delivery system. It's set up to be a paintball gun with limited modifications, and that can be opened and closed, delivering air pressure to the barrel. It's not fully bored out though, so it's not ready to go. Certain laws here prevented me from making and selling a working projectile shooting thing
Keep in touch, I love talking steam punk and whatnot!

Nice - so the 'gun' side works too (with full bore).
BTW - THINK I've found the info I was talking about... here .

As it runs via electrical means, can't see any reason why you couldn't modify it to show 'volume' for example.

Very cool! I want to take it apart to learn more about how it was made. I'm gutting a bunch of watches to gather materials right now, but I want to reverse engineer something bigger soon.

BTW - in regards to projectile weapons and the law... does that still cover weapons that don't use a projectile - such as a vortex cannon?

like this one: vortex cannon

HA! Glorious. I wonder how hard it would be to minimize that design. I can imagine it wouldn't be terribly impossible using compressed air, Like rigging up 4 co2 cartridges into a single delivery pipe and using them all in one shot. I'd like to research this now...

I was thinking more along the lines of using an old electromagentically operated VU meter, rehoused in a 'steampunk' style casing - so it would move whilst the guitar is playing.

That would look awesome!

sure there will be something on line for building a basic 'amp' circuit so the tiny voltage picked up from the movement of the strings above the pick-ups is amplified suffieicently to move a VU meter.

here's what Wiki says about it:

That would be pretty sweet. I actually just got commissioned to do another gun guitar so we will both be embarking on a guitar project. How's yours coming along?

marquiswyld In reply to AstroHelix [2011-04-27 20:07:22 +0000 UTC]

slowly - it's early days yet though... like I said it's going to be pretty basic. A gun prop of some kind - more steampunk than ones I've cast before.

Still deciding what sort of gun to use as a base..

Amazons got lots of cheap stuff which is great for that - trying to avoid the "Nerfs-up" idea of going for a 'maverick job'... as that's been done every other way but Sunday.

Thinking of something like this as a start point: [link]

AstroHelix In reply to marquiswyld [2011-05-09 13:21:15 +0000 UTC]

Heh, that DOES already look rather steampunky. It's good to hear it won't be yet ANOTHER nerf job

It's been a while since I replied to you originally, how's it going?

marquiswyld In reply to AstroHelix [2011-05-09 21:20:09 +0000 UTC]

non too bad - got some small projects and bigger ones on the horizon in the next few months... which are always good. There might even be a commissioned prosthetic effects job in the offering (a friend of mine is having a zombie themed 40th), so there's going to be LOTS of prep work for that... plus it's a good lead time (3 months) so plenty of time to get materials and costumes ready.

yeah - gotta brush up on my Elvis style singing too... as I will be doing myself up as the 'king immortal undead-Elvis... or Hell-vis as some people describe him.
Personally, I suspect it will be more like Bubba...

froman-joe In reply to AstroHelix [2011-02-05 00:03:14 +0000 UTC]

I would if I actually had any money to spend on it. >_> Its good enough to sell for a pretty penny, especially if the guitar actually works.

Although if you want to make some money off your work my I suggest etsy, its like ebay for handmade stuff.

You're very welcome! The heavy metal-Jules Verne guitar was a stroke on genius! How's the sound quality, or is it just something lovely for the eyes? Either way, brilliant!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AstroHelix In reply to GeorgieGanarf [2011-01-25 20:35:58 +0000 UTC]

I replaced a lot of the surface bits with copper, so the sound is really unique. You can hear it play if you listen to Tommy Tellarico's "Video Games Live" from this year. He uses it to play the Halo Theme I sold it to him on eBay, lol.

A few grand, might not be polite to go into the details I know he's pretty happy with it, and he looks pretty badass playing the Halo songs on it. I'm pleased! I was so shocked when I got his bid on eBay!
