Description The first assignment for my Illustration III course was to do a study of a piece by a professional illustrator. I chose Ralph McQuarrie, who did a lot of the concept illustrations for the original Star Wars films, and picked out the original of this piece. One of my goals was to try and use my own media of choice, watercolor and color pencil, to try and mimic the vibrancy and color range of McQuarrie's piece, which was done in oil.

Don't ask me what the critters all around Yoda are. My best guess is that Yoda took up collecting Pokemon or something over all those years of sitting in exile in a swamp. Everyone needs a hobby.

With this being a study after another's work, I won't be selling prints or anything, but I always welcome thoughts and feedback.

Media: Watercolor, color pencil, gouache

The point of having animals gather around yoda is that he was in harmony with nature via his oneness with the force.

I really like this color palette, and the shading techniques; I'm not familiar with the original, but this does really stand out on its own.
