This was a piece made in late January for the UN Poster for Peace Contest , sponsored by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs. I didn’t want to post it until now because I didn’t want to potentially jeopardize my chances by posting it too early. (I lost by the way, didn’t even place. )
I sketched it in November, but I never got to it until January because I was busy with other projects (i.e. the Secret Santa pic ).
The concept involved Eirene , the Greek goddess of peace, engulfing a nuclear warhead with vines (representing life). This is meant to represent peace, love, and life overcoming death and war. I also know that I somewhat botched up the inking, making the warhead look more like a rocket (among other things). (Seriously, as nice as it’d be to place, I’m not surprised I didn’t do well.)
This was originally textless, but I added text to better get the message across. Regardless, the final file was so huge, the only way I could submit a true version was as a JPG rather than my usual PNG. (In fact, it’s the only one I can post on Tumblr!)
