here in Mexico, the piΓ±atas are always on a pulley-like system with a strong dude from the piΓ±ata-makers at the other end. it's truly evil, and you have to be REALLY quick to hit the stupid thing at all DX

it is, but it's really embarrassing to be the one flailing around and trying to hit the darn thing >_<
to make things worse, it's a tradition to have piΓ±atas at birthday parties (at least when you're younger), and everyone sings the infamous "piΓ±ata song" ("Β‘dale dale dale! Β‘no pierdas el tino! Β‘ porque si la pierdes, pierdes el camino! Β‘una! Β‘dos! Β‘tres!") over and over again until your turn of swinging a shiny stick like an idiot is over

Haha! Though, I do have to say that pinata's are pretty popular at smaller children's birthday parties in America as well. You can pick them up at most grocery stores.
