Would you believe me if I told you this is New Jersey? Well, believe me because it is! This is one of the many beautiful views from the Pochuck Boardwalk along the NJ section of the Appalachian Trail. Located in Wawayanda State Park, this is a unique part of the trail. The boardwalk and suspension bridge were built because this is a massive marsh area home to many wildlife species.This was taken right around sunset as a storm was rolling in. Less than ten minutes after I took this photo, a sudden and huge downpour happened. I hiked off the boardwalk and towards where I was parked, blinded by the rain and the light from my headlamp bouncing off the rain. Somehow, I made it there safely and was almost laughing as I got back to my car at the absurdity of it all.
Sometimes even in the heaviest downpours joy can still be found.
As always, be safe out on the trail folks! Plan ahead and bring everything you need or you could get caught in a storm like this one without raingear. Treat the outdoors with respect and carry out what you carry in.
