I seen a tutorial on youtube about giving photos a distant background look with blurring effects and thought it would work perfectly with this picture, I'm glad you like it.
I actually colored the background three different times before I got it right. I tried it as a evening sky, but I couldn't get the clouds to look right. Then I tried a night sky, but then I thought hawks don't fly at night. So I settled on daytime sky. Also did you notice the smoke?

yes! the smoke bit was amazing! I had actually made a very long comment talking about it and everything else, I had also said how I remembered that Hawks and eagles don't fly at night lol but then I accidentally canceled the comment xD but yeah.. my bad. The mountains were a very good touch

I did however change a few things like I made the soles of his shoes a little darker. I also changed his hair a bit, and the hawk, I'm gonna upload it soon so you can see

For the shading on the roof I used a hard brush for the shadows and a feathered brush for the highlights.

Oh is purple a realistic roof color?

Its funny, the mountains were the easiest part of the picture to color and they came out looking so good.

The scenery looks amazing
Putting a blur on the mountains was a nice touch, it does make them look distant. I also like what you did in the tress it looks like the wind in blowing though them.

Whenever you look at something faraway it looks blurry, so when I was trying to put a final touch on the picture I seen a tutorial on youtube about giving photos a distant background look with blurring effects. It turned out pretty good.

The trees are a combination of three different brushes I use on photoshop.
