Description Steve Hinton was flying this F-86 Sabre during the Korean War demo. When they started the chase with a MiG-15 on Sunday, one of the fuel tanks popped off. The Sabre had to knock it off and loiter until it was time to land. They did have the aircraft back up later for the Heritage Flight.

Nellis AFB, Aviation Nation 2009.

More than once. They call them "drop tanks" for a reason.
Typically before engaging an enemy aircraft, the flight lead would call for the flight to release the drop tanks in order to increase maneuverability. This one happened quite by accident.

well one didn't come off, due to the grips jamming
