It's time for you to put together a book and start shopping it to publishers. You know that, right?

Thanks. I'd like to, but cartoon books (like the Farside Galleries, etc.) have a newspaper following that publishers like. I shopped a bit early on with vague success, but now I have 650 ready to print 'toons. I should probably try again.

Newspapers are less relevant all the time. We stopped taking our local paper after a political rally which we attended was reported to have "dozens" of people present. We were there, and there were hundreds if not over a thousand! Blatant distortion, sickening! and I would have been offended if I'd known they'd done that to the other side, as it's not their PLACE to skew the voice of the people that way. I also thought the cartoons they had were tired and needed to be replaced with fresher content. Like yours!

Agreed. I stopped taking our paper too due to slantage. Even thought they are less relevant every day, most pub houses are old school, run by ex-paper types. And pub houses too are declining I hear. Folks dont buy books like they used to. We shall see. I'll have another try after the holidays.

When the money has stopped coming in, the papers will either update their approach or die. I read all my news online. I don't pay for it except that I pay for my internet service. This model won't work either. I'm durned if I know what the answer will be. I probably won't be alive to see how it all works out, but I bet I'll live to see your cartoon published somewhere and in the major retail outlets.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Yeah, the news industry is going thru a radical shake up. Nightly news ratings are in the tank. Papers are dying & like you, I can't see how internet news is making money. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Well, they have ads, but even if we don't have ad-blockers we simply don't see them. I can't think of the last ad I noticed online. If it doesn't flash I simply don't see it, and if it does flash it makes me far too mad to buy whatever product is advertised. When the advertisers realize that we now have the power to search out what we want, without needing ads to point us there, the marketing industry will collapse. If you need a car you don't sit and watch TV for hours to see the commercials--you go out and start fact-finding to pick the car you need. Getting the facts laid out so we can answer the questions we have for ourselves is where they should be spending their marketing money, don't you think? And the random layout of news outlets is simply not conducive to fact-finding. Drudge is as successful as anybody because we can so easily ignore what we are not interested in reading and find what we decide we need to see.

Success becomes a matter of how well you find what is actually pertinent to you and your needs, without getting sidetracked by celeb stuff and other irrelevencies....

Go back further than that, and you find all you had were wood-burning eels ...

Hey, wait a minute -- how do you get a wood fire burning under water???

AtomicCheese In reply to MamaLucia [2006-12-15 05:05:38 +0000 UTC]

probably the same way you get coal & oil to burn under water.
