is that a gouache base, and then you do colour pencil over it for finer detail?
love your stuff

Your work ist awsome. Im painting with color pencils myself and I would give my first child to be able to draw like you (well, okay, maybe I will just practice more... )
What pencil did you use on the right site for the ground? Did not know that it is possible to combinate tge materials ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Would be extremely happy if I would get an answer

wow your buildup style is amazing. I've never seen anyone kinda just scribble out a color or a sketch [like your gollum] and then go over it and add such amazing details! very cool!

Szczurzyslawa, I see your point here. The way I think about it is this. This drawing could be several things. It could be a skills building practice for him, so he can learn the strengths of certain techniques to use elsewhere. Nothing wrong with that. It could be a commission. If someone asked for a pencil rendition of Merida, that wouldn't be much different from someone asking for a portrait of a real person. It is usually meant to like just like the actual subject matter. Art is very hard to define in a few sentences. That's too restrictive. Many old artists got chewed out for making their work too expressive, because the people wanted a realistic copy of an image or form. Many were chewed out for not being expressive enough. I think art is art if the artist wants it to be, and artists are very different from one to another. Consider Duchamp's fountain. Nobody would normally consider a urinal as a work of art. But since Duchamp took it out of its natural habitat, turned it upside down, signed it and put it in an exhibit, it became art. I also think it really depends on the viewer's opinion. Especially the viewer for whom it was created (in regard to commissions), since they'd be the one's keeping it. So there's my four cents. I personally love this drawing, one because I love realistic renditions; two because it shows me a pencil drawing technique I wasn't aware of before, and I like it.

This is interesting. I've never seen pencil over marker before. But I can see how it acts like an imprematura, and shows up behind all the strands of hair. Did you leave the red marker out of her face or did you just color over it?

When you lay down the red base for the hair color, is that the watercolor pencils see in theย teaserย or a red marker?ย  I'd love to learn from anything you have to share. Thanks for your time.ย ย
