I suppose I do not understand what the icons on the left mean, or what this image means in general.

The icons on the left are the ones from Instagram: Comments, Likes, Followers
I believe the image is saying that people in the west (symbolized by the child on the left) cry for unimportant things,(such as how many followers or likes they get) while the people in poor countries (represented by the child on the right) don't even have food or homes. It gives some perspective on what we value the most in life :/
