Description So I decided I would try and make my own original species and to be honest I am quite happy with these guys. ^^ I'm offering free MYOs for friends! Note me if interested! I will only do 3.

This is a CLOSED SPECIES. Do not make your own!

Origins

500 years in the future

Earth has been ravaged by rising sea levels. With the earth getting warmer, ice caps have melted at great speeds, resulting in the oceans covering 1/3 of all land on earth. Due to the temperatures rising, earth has been hit by severe drought. Crops have either been drowned by salt water, or have dried up in the desert like heat. Humans have called for the design to hunt down a home on another planet for Earth's remaining population.

600 years into the future

The search for a new planet for humans to call home is well under way. 1/2 of earths remaining population has been saved from drought and now reside in multiple space stations throughout the galaxy. Humans have found potential planets, but some contain savage beasts that prevent humans from settling.

620 years into the future.

Scientists have started to develop a new domestic pet to keep those travelling far and wide into newer galaxies company. Using DNA found from animals on earth, and creatures discovered on other planets. Combining this DNA they have created the perfect companion for long space journeys. The MoonLeaper.

About The MoonLeaper

MoonLeapers are genetically engineered hybrids created for survival in space all while being a domesticated pet for humans living there. MoonLeapers were created by combining DNA from Earth's own domesticated animals along with creatures found on various other planets, thus making a domesticated creature which can breath in space, survive the cold, and act normally in zero gravity. Moon leapers have been called "The Astronauts Best Friend".

Traits

MoonLeapers are small creatures which can fit in the palm of your hand. They are quick and agile, and can survive in a variety of conditions. The have strong, spring like back legs that allow them to surge through the zero gravity of space. They are also equipped with 'sticky' pawpads that allow them to climb up any surface much like a spider. Their bodies are covered in a soft dense, feathery fur, however some MoonLeapers have longer fur around their faces and necks, and also on their tails. This is common in female MoonLeapers most. These little creatures also have the ability to glow in the dark, this is a survival technique to help astronauts who are stranded without power. Their feelers, often located on their cheeks or back, illuminate at will. MoonLeapers communicate in short whistling squeaks. They are commonly fed on oats and special lab food recommended by scientists to keep them healthy. These creatures live for up to 60 years. There are many variaties and traits of MoonLeapers yet to be discovered.

Faults

As MoonLeapers are an experimental creature, some turn 'Rogue.' Rogue is when a MoonLeaper turns on it's owner at any time, or is simply created this way by accident. Genetic information can be distributed unevenly when a MoonLeaper is being created, and thus, with the genetics of some dangerous space creatures, the MoonLeaper can inherit these treacherous traits. These MoonLeapers are exiled to live on other planets where they cannot harm. Rogues are often picked up and become a pet of notorious space outlaws.

Some MoonLeapers are born with physical and mental defects. The most common would be MoonLeapers being born without or with extra limbs. These MoonLeapers are often also exiled to prevent any complications in the future. Some of the rarer defects include appendages much like wings, extra ears/no ears, no gender, herm, extreme deformities and many more that are sometimes too gruesome to speak of.

There are some diseases found on other planets and in space that can effect a MoonLeaper. The most common is Space Mange.  Space mange is when a space parasite lives on a moonleaper and causes it to sometimes break out in rashes and hair loss. This is common in Rogues as they cannot get treated for this. Some other diseases include one nicknamed "galactic cough", which slowly asphyxiates a MoonLeaper. There are many yet to be discovered.

Defense techniques

MoonLeapers are designed to be non threatening, but do come equipped with sharp teeth and claws to help defend themselves. MoonLeapers must be thought not to bite or scratch humans before leaving the laboratory.

Gender

MoonLeapers are either male of female, however some defects can cause them to be neither or both. The MoonLeapers that are of both genders are also exiled as they become confused and lose their minds after their first year of living. MoonLeapers without gender are very rare and are very calm, docile creatures. They are much more quiet than male and female.

Babies

MoonLeapers can only have one baby in a lifetime. These are called Loffies and are born without markings, horns and feelers. These come later in life.

Rarities
Rogue MoonLeapers, hybrid MoonLeapers (bred with other space creatures), any with deformities and defects are considered rare.
