Though Barton is a "normal" human being, he has trained his body to peak athletic levels, gaining exceptional strength, endurance, speed, and stamina fitting for a man of his size, mass, and build.
Creators: Stan Lee, Don Heck
First Appearance: Tales of Suspense #57 "Hawkeye, the Marksman" (June 1964)

Clinton "Clint" Barton is the second son of Harold and Edith Barton. He grew up working in his family's butcher shop in Waverly, Iowa. Clint and his older brother Barney were often made victims to their father's drunken abuse which only grew increasingly brutal. Though Barney could protect himself from the worst of this, a ten-year old Clint was hospitalized when his father threw him down the basement stairs.

After Clint recovered, Barney was teaching Clint to fight. When an especially drunken Harold tried to hurt an eleven-year old Clint, the boy took some lumps but he gave as good as he got. It would be the last time Harold would lay a hand on Clint. Within a year of this, Harold and Edith would be dead while a drunken Harold was driving their car home celebrating their anniversary. Following the incident, Clint and Barney were sent to a foster home. They had a good three years, but after their foster mother struck Clint for breaking a window while the boys were playing catch, Barney woke Clint up in the middle of the night suggesting that they run away to join the circus which was in a neighboring town. Clint didn't want to go, but when he realized that Barney was serious, he fled with his brother rather than be without him.

While Barney was working as a roundabout for Tiboldt's Traveling Circus, Clint trained under two of the circus's performers, Jacques Duquesne and Buck Chisholm, in fencing, knife-throwing, and archery. Clint would also do some training with other performers in the circus, learning some acrobatics and animal handling. Clint was particularly adept at archery, and he and Barney would soon perform their own archery act, becoming known as the world's greatest marksmen--Hawkeye and Trickshot.

After years with the circus, Clint, along with Barney, Duquesne, and Chisholm, would be approached for their extraordinary skills to be enlisted as elite agents of a paramilitary force working under the Zodiac Cartel, a new incarnation of a criminal organization with the same name that was dismantled by S.H.I.E.L.D. in the seventies. As part of the new Zodiac Cartel, Clint and Barney became skilled infiltrators and assassins for the organization, going on high-profile missions and quickly becoming the best of the best.

Although Hawkeye loved his older brother Trickshot, as time passed, he became dissatisfied being a criminal. When he was captured and interrogated by S.H.I.E.L.D. during a mission, Nick Fury himself offered him a chance of starting a new life. Clint made good on this offer, but he did partially only did so in exchange that S.H.I.E.L.D. gave immunity for Barney and their mentors, Duquesne and Chisholm. However, when Clint tried to convince the three to leave the Cartel, Duquesne and Chisholm immediately struck at him, believing that he sold them out to S.H.I.E.L.D. after hearing a portion of his story. Before Clint was beaten to death, Barney convinced the men that they needed to flee and so they did, leaving a broken and bloodied Clint for death.

Shortly after recovering at a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, Hawkeye rejected his criminal past, settled down with after starting a family with three children, and becoming one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top agents. He rose through the ranks so well, he actually was partners with the elusive Black Widow for a time, with the two forming a strong friendship.

When the Avengers Initiative was first kickstarted, Hawkeye, like Black Widow, was kept in potential backup by Nick Fury, not part of the main team at first.

XXXXXX

Though, of course, like Black Widow, he would eventually become a mainstay in the core Avengers roster. Unlike his Ultimate counterpart, my version of Hawkeye isn't a full-on jerk, but he still retains some traits. For example, he's the snarky bastard of the team and is one of the very few Avengers who has no qualms over killing his enemies. He can also be antagonistic to his teammates, such as Hulk (who he has a constant rivalry with after they both fully join the team) and Thor (who he doesn't believe is a god at first, thinking that he's a nutcase with superpowers).

Inspired by Green-Mamba , I decided to change up Hawkeye's race, with him being of Mediterranean descent, most likely Greek. As for his costume, it's made to resemble the outfit that his Ultimate counterpart wore in Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum (minus the stupid target on the head). It also has a tighter, more stealthily and armored look to make him look more like a straight-up superhero.
