I'm into the new Dante as well. The game looks promising so far (although in the past I've claimed to be neither in favor nor against the upcoming game. We'll just have to wait and see). It's probably just the crapload amount of promos and advertisements (which, I'll admit, I think are a bit cheesy and reveal probably a bit too much) that make the whole game look overly done. The change in scenery and the main character's good too (hey, he actually look like he's been in fights and crap); I think we've had enough of the good guy being a pretty, white haired anime-lookalike male (which was something that people were apparently into when the first DMC came out) who was magically raised perfectly well despite living alone pretty much his whole life after his mother died.

Lol you do know they made DMC 3 after that didn't they... which satisfied the fanbase... nice... reboot after making 2 more successful games that brought the franchise back to life.

Not many people liked DMC4 as much as DMC3. And then people started hating the original.
With the creator jumping ship to Bayonetta, it didn't help enough.
They couldn't get past DMC2 anyway, that's what I meant. They keep making prequels.

I think the only reason I get pissed is because, rather than hating on plausible things, people have been hating on him just because of his freaking appearance.

Well... that is plausible... I mean if someone doesn't like the appearance of an iconic character who had a drastic makeover...
I think its understandable.
Change is good but doing something so extreme when a particular look did actually work extremely well for an established character... how can you not expect people not to be peeved about it.
I'm just really hoping that this isn't the end for the original Dante... its only because there's no news of that, that Im reserving judgment.
If they decide to kill of the original Dante so abruptly in favor of the new guy... well then Ima be pissed. Because quite frankly Dante is my favorite video game character. And in terms of appearance I dont really think this guy looks as cool as Dante.
Plus the guy smokes so that alone makes him less cooler than the original Dante (Im a smoker myself so I have nothing against smokers)... but Dante was just always cool in that he didn't need the "badass cigarette" accessory.
I like the look (mostly 'cos he looks like a fucked up street drug addict... I always wondered how it'd be to have a main protagonist like that)... what'd really clinch it for me is if they made him a little less pretty boy-ish. And fuck up his face a little more...
