Description

First of all, I have to say that I really do like Winx Club. Otherwise this fanart would never have happened and is mostly the result of my procrastination from doing some character designs.

It goes like this: Since I’ve been drawing a lot lately I’ve been re-watching seasons 1 and 2 of Winx Club in order to finally catch up with the rest of the seasons (as of finishing this piece, I’m already finishing season 3). On top of that I have been trying to experiment with different body types. So, since nobody should get away so easily with using the same CGI mesh for six different characters, I started to consider how to make each girl more unique (as far as I’m concerned, the guys suffer from the same treatment but I’m still barely able to draw a decent generic skinny guy. That experiment would have to wait for a bit).

It’s merely an experiment and not a statement of any sort. Actually, whenever I had some traits to follow, I went with convention (A.K.A. cliché or stereotype, your pick) and thus gave Layla (still on season 3) a more Amazonian figure, Techna ended up being really skinny, Musa petite and Bloom got more or less my generic girl body (at least I tried to do this things). I looked for some promotional art to use poses either of them would actually do (I’m not sure it really mattered that much, though). Other than that; eyes, face shapes and other features were assigned more or less randomly.

Conclusions: mostly, I need a bigger nose repertoire and definitely finding the Gravity Center for a drawing with those heels is almost as difficult as finding it when you’re wearing them. Finally, by the time I was finishing it, I wasn’t as happy with it as before so it’s probably one of the first candidates to those “Improvement memes” around. As for the background or wings, I was simply too lazy to bother with them.

Favs are Layla and Flora and the one I like the least is Techna. She doesn’t have that many elements to play with so I couldn’t make her face work at all.
