What did you sculpt the mask itself out of? I'd like to use the method myself for a possible gaster cosplay in the near futureΒ

I started working on mine after seeing this picture on google for a ref! I'm so glad I finally found the maker, ahah.

I do have a question if you don't mind.. What did you use to make it so darn smooth? I'm thinking about using fiberglass resin > acrylic paint > fiberglass resin, then sanding down the last layer, though I'm not too sure how that will work. I've never used resin before, and went from the suggestions of a DIY forum.

Right now I have the two parts for his head together (I used balloons.. seemed easier than the pumpkin buckets!), and thinking about adding another layer of paper mache, but with toilet paper because it's so darn bumpy!Β  Β

Phew, I've tried working with resin before and that is a huge pain. That's why I opted for wood filler on this. Plus wood filler is WAY easier to sand down than resin. I just smeared a bunch of that over my paper mache and sanded it down, filled in the cracks, sanded it down some more, etc. It's time consuming but it gets it smooth eventually.

Bluedash24theGamer [2016-02-03 02:07:39 +0000 UTC]

What did it look like from the inside? Could you see out the eyesockets? I'm a bit confused.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AttackGoose In reply to Bluedash24theGamer [2016-02-15 03:34:53 +0000 UTC]

The inside is basically a whole bunch of duct tape and stretched out fabric. It used to have book lights for the pupils but I opted to get rid of those to make it easier for me to see and give me some extra space for air flow in the head. I do see out of the eye sockets, yes. Stretched out black fabric gives the illusion of darkness from the outside but is actually surprisingly easy to see out of from the inside of masks.

Sunnybrook1 [2016-01-23 00:14:14 +0000 UTC]

Clever way to allow for both white, blue, and no pupils, great job! How's the breathing/heat-management while wearing it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AttackGoose In reply to Sunnybrook1 [2016-01-24 16:13:39 +0000 UTC]

The heat and breathing issues were actually really bad, so in the end, I actually ended up removing the lights and going back to fixed pupils. That opened up more space in the mask to breathe and I can wear it much longer now. Plus I see better. So while the lights were cool, they weren't exactly effective for a con.

MetaXTiffcosplayer [2016-01-09 01:36:50 +0000 UTC]

In regards to your Sans eyes, what is the difference between the regular pupils and the blue eye. Did you use two different lights?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AttackGoose In reply to MetaXTiffcosplayer [2016-01-09 15:05:37 +0000 UTC]

They are different lights, yes. The blue eye is a book light with a large lens, while the regular pupils are smaller book light lenses. Both are covered with fabric of the appropriate color (white for the normal pupils, and blue fabric to tint the blue one). The fabric helps to dim and diffuse the LEDs and make them less electronic.

Did you make that from scratch? Amazing work

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AttackGoose In reply to DongoFett617 [2015-12-20 20:50:29 +0000 UTC]

The mask is from scratch, the legs and hands are drawn onto tights/gloves, and the hoodie and shorts are bought then altered.Β

Thanks!

Would you ever consider commissioning this for a bro?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AttackGoose In reply to KeepCalm-StayAwesome [2015-12-10 19:31:48 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately that head was a huge pain to make and I have very little free time right now (my job is working me...TO THE BONE ugh...) so I'm not taking commissions for it, even though a lot of people have asked. Sorry.

AttackGoose In reply to UuNeko [2015-11-27 16:09:26 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I should be making a tutorial very shortly (probably this weekend). But it involved using two pumpkin trick or treat pails, paper mache, wood filler, acrylic paint, and sealant. If you choose to go with wood filler, try and sand it outside or something. It creates a huuuuge mess.

Can you please post a tutorial on how you made this amazing thing please?
Oh and also, out of curiosity, how do you not get blinded by the LEDS in the mask?Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AttackGoose In reply to MyLittleBMO [2015-11-22 20:22:25 +0000 UTC]

Yep, I'll get around to making a tutorial once I actually get the motivation to do so. As for not being blinded, the lights are book lights, so they really only shine outward. I still see some of the light, but it's more of a reflective glow than a dose of light straight to the pupils. ;D

How did you put the L.E.D'S in?Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AttackGoose In reply to troksnains [2015-11-22 20:24:37 +0000 UTC]

They're just some random booklights I found at walmart until I can get a better lighting setup. I put some white cloth over the regular eyes to get the light more diffuse and some blue cloth over the left eye for the same effect.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

troksnains In reply to AttackGoose [2015-11-23 01:44:50 +0000 UTC]

Ah. The lights still look great, even if they're just a temporary setup.Β

xD

AttackGoose In reply to Sputnik-99 [2015-11-22 20:23:27 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yup. It is a bit cross-eyed, but that's because if I put them in a normal position with my current setup I wouldn't be able to see. Sooo I'll take the weird eyes rather than tripping over everything.
